Real HR experience inside a global consulting firm, with no degree, prior experience or professional connections needed to apply. This paid eight-week summer internship gives you hands-on work in the People team, exposure to senior leaders, and structured support from AlixPartners and Generation Success, so you build the confidence, skills and network for your next step.
Generation Success connects ambitious talent with employers building the workplace of tomorrow. We are recruiting this internship on behalf of AlixPartners to widen access to careers that can feel hard to reach. We are here so the process tests your potential, not your polish, your postcode or who you know.
AlixPartners is the global consulting firm businesses turn to when challenges are complex and time is short. Its brand line, “When it really matters”, sums up how it works: fast, high-trust, and built on turnaround, restructuring and performance improvement, with a growing focus on helping clients turn AI into real results. People are trusted with real responsibility early.
Inclusion sits inside the firm’s core values. It is supported by nine employee-led resource groups and recognised externally through the Human Rights Campaign’s Equality 100 Award. AlixPartners also partners with social mobility organisations, Generation Success among them, to open doors like this one.
This is real work with structured support, not a work-shadowing placement. You will be embedded across the People Business Partnering and People Operations teams during one of the busiest periods in their year.
Most of your time supports the Business Partnering team on visible, people-facing work such as mid-year promotion panels and compensation planning, with supplementary support to the Operations team on practical coordination like scheduling and issuing contracts. You will be paired with a buddy for guidance throughout, and report to the relevant team lead depending on the work in front of you.
During the internship, you will coordinate the senior promotion panels and performance meetings that shape who moves up, managing busy and competing leadership diaries. You will keep the People team’s records and trackers accurate, working confidently in Excel, and you will pull together the data and write the summaries that leaders rely on to make talent decisions.
You will also help new joiners through their first week so onboarding runs smoothly, draft employee letters, and pick up other coordination work as it comes up.
You do not need to have worked in HR, to have a degree, or to know anyone in consulting. If you are interested in people, organisation and how a business runs, this could be a strong first step.
Some people rule themselves out because they worry they lack the right network, background, confidence or words for their experience. Please do not count yourself out early. Your examples can come from study, part-time work, volunteering, caring responsibilities, student societies, community projects or customer-facing work; anything that shows how you organise yourself, communicate, learn and follow through.
We hire for potential. If you are organised, curious, willing to ask when you are unsure, and ready to take responsibility for what is in front of you, you are the kind of person we want.
Essential
- Keep track of details: You manage tasks, deadlines, information and follow-ups accurately.
- Take ownership: You take responsibility for a task, keep others updated and ask for help when you need it.
- Communicate clearly: You write and speak clearly in English, including with senior colleagues.
- Use core Microsoft Office: You have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook and Excel.
- Handle information with care: People work is sensitive, and you treat confidential information with discretion.
- Work well on your own: You can work independently from home while staying connected with your buddy, recruiter and team.
Nice to have
Confidence with PowerPoint or AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot is useful but not required. Previous HR, office, volunteering, community or customer-facing experience may help, though we care more about organisation, communication, discretion and willingness to learn. Additional language skills can be useful in a global firm, but are not required for this London-focused internship and will not be used as a selection requirement unless directly relevant to the work.
AlixPartners works at pace, and you will need to keep up and prioritise sensibly. The firm is between offices, so desk space is limited and you will work from home much of the time. That means being comfortable working independently and approaching colleagues directly when you need an answer, rather than relying on a team sitting around you. In-office days are confirmed week by week, and you will learn and live by the AlixPartners Code of Conduct.
This is a fixed eight-week internship with no guaranteed role at the end, though past interns across the firm have stayed in touch and some have returned later.
None of this means you have to be the finished article. You do not need to have done this before, or to come from a particular background, to belong here. The support around you, a buddy at AlixPartners and your recruiter at Generation Success, is there so the pace and the independence are manageable.
You will leave with real experience across both the strategic and operational sides of a global People function, direct exposure to senior leaders, stronger Excel, communication and coordination skills, and a clearer view of whether HR, consulting or professional services fit your future, along with the confidence and network to take your next step.
From the moment you apply, Generation Success is in your corner. You will have a named recruiter as your point of contact from application through to offer.
You will receive interview preparation, including a briefing on AlixPartners and the internship, coaching on how to structure strong answers using the STAR method, and a mock interview with feedback where time allows. We can also offer practical confidence and presentation support through Generation Success and relevant partners. Before you start, you will have a pre-start conversation and the chance to meet your AlixPartners buddy, so you are not walking in cold.
We want the eight weeks to work for you, not just the application. Tell your Generation Success recruiter what you need, in confidence, and we will work with AlixPartners to sort it.
If you do not have a reliable laptop or strong home internet for remote working, tell us early and we will arrange support, so this is never the thing that holds you back. Extra time on assessments, and any reasonable adjustments for a disability, neurodivergence or health condition, can be arranged privately and without fuss.
If you have access needs for your in-office days, let us know and we will confirm what is in place before you start. If travel or other costs before your first payday would be a barrier, speak to us in confidence and we will look at options with you.
Generation Success and AlixPartners are committed to fair recruitment. Selection is based on the internship criteria and your potential, and we will not disadvantage anyone because of a protected characteristic, including age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.
If you need an adjustment for any part of the process, whether extra time, an accessible format, assessment or interview support, or anything connected to a disability, neurodivergence, health condition, caring responsibility, religion or belief, tell your recruiter in confidence. Any equality monitoring is collected separately and is never used to assess your application.
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds. Applying is quick, and we will guide you through every stage. Apply through Generation Success using the link provided with this advert. The internship has a fixed summer start and runs to a tight timeline, so applying sooner gives us more time to support you through each stage. If you need an adjustment at any point in the process, contact us as soon as you can and we will help you access it fairly.
What to expect in the process
- A short online application and your CV (Around 5 minutes)
- A few questions from Generation Success about you, your motivation and your interest in the internship (Around 20 minutes)
- A short online assessment, with extra time available if you need it (Around 15 to 20 minutes)
- A friendly conversation with your Generation Success recruiter (Around 20 minutes)
- If you progress, a conversation with AlixPartners and a short online personality assessment (Confirmed during the process)
The personality assessment supports the recruitment conversation. It is not about finding one “right” personality type, and adjustments are available if you need them.
Any offer is subject to standard right-to-work checks, carried out in a way that does not discriminate because of nationality, race or ethnic background. The full terms of the internship, including employment status, pay arrangements, working pattern and any applicable benefits or holiday arrangements, will be confirmed in the offer.
Generation Success and AlixPartners will handle your application information in line with their candidate privacy notices, which will be shared during the application process. If you have a question, or need an adjustment at any stage, email [email protected] and we will help.
