Legal Secretary – Exeter – Private Client Department

The Role
As a Legal Secretary in our Private Client team, you will provide essential administrative and secretarial support to our fee earners, ensuring our clients receive the highest standard of care during what can often be sensitive times. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Audio and copy typing of legal documents and correspondence (including Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney, and probate documents).
- Managing diaries, scheduling appointments, and organising meetings.
- Handling client enquiries over the phone and in person with a warm, empathetic, and professional manner.
- Opening and maintaining accurate physical and electronic files.
- General administrative duties to keep the department running smoothly.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone with an eagle eye for detail and a proactive approach to their work.
- Experience: Previous secretarial experience within a legal or professional services environment is highly advantageous (Private Client experience is a wonderful bonus, but not strictly essential).
- Skills: Excellent typing speeds, strong IT skills, and a confident telephone manner.
- Personality: A team player who is adaptable, highly organised, and passionate about delivering excellent client service.
Private Client Paralegals
We have three positions available, two within out East Devon Hub in Ottery St Mary and one in Exeter.
The Role
Working alongside our experienced Private Client lawyers, you will provide vital support across a diverse and rewarding caseload, including:
- Assisting with the drafting of Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney.
- Supporting the administration of Estates and Trusts.
- Liaising with clients, providing a compassionate and professional service during often sensitive times.
- Assisting with Court of Protection matters and Elderly Client services.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for individuals who are organised, empathetic, and eager to learn.
- Qualifications: A law degree, CILEX, or relevant legal experience is preferred.
- Skills: Strong administrative skills and an eagle eye for detail.
- Personality: A “people person” who understands the importance of providing exceptional client care.
- Ambition: Someone looking to grow within the firm
