Commercial Lead - Project Cargo & Breakbulk
Location: Southampton (Split between Head Office and Port Operations)
Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 per annum (DOE)
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday (8:00am - 5:00pm)

Southampton Cargo Handling (SCH) is looking for an experienced and commercially driven Commercial Lead- Project Cargo & Breakbulk to help grow our specialist cargo operations.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in developing a growing area of the business, working with customers across project cargo, heavy lift and breakbulk operations. You'll combine commercial expertise with operational coordination to deliver safe, efficient and profitable cargo movements while building strong, long-term client relationships.

What you'll be doing
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with new and existing customers.
- Preparing and negotiating quotations for project cargo, heavy lift and breakbulk shipments.
- Identifying new business opportunities to grow SCH's project cargo services.
- Working closely with operational teams to plan and coordinate complex cargo movements.
- Supporting lift planning, resource scheduling and operational delivery.
- Acting as the link between commercial and operational teams to ensure customer expectations are met.
- Promoting a strong health, safety and compliance culture across all activities.
- Producing commercial reports and monitoring performance against business objectives.
What we're looking for
We're looking for someone who has:
- Experience within ports, terminals, logistics, project cargo, breakbulk, Ro-Ro or heavy lift operations.
- Strong commercial experience, including pricing, quotations, negotiation and business development.
- A good understanding of cargo handling, lifting operations and lashing practices.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Good Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
- A full UK driving licence.
It would be great if you also have:
- Experience using port or logistics systems such as NetSuite, Destin8 or CNS.
- Knowledge of heavy lift or engineered cargo projects.
- A qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business or a related subject (although relevant industry experience is equally valued).
Travel
This role is based between our Head Office and Port Operations in Southampton. Occasional UK and overseas travel will be required for customer meetings and industry events, with all business expenses reimbursed.
