MSc Sports Performance Analysis Placement

Provider: Swindon Town FC & University of Gloucestershire

Description

University of Gloucestershire and Swindon Town FC are committed to the development of aspiring practitioners through elite sport in the UK. We currently have an exciting opportunity for two aspiring performance analysts to develop their expertise via a combination of high-quality teaching on our MSc Sport Performance Analysis course, and through applied experience with Swindon Town’s Performance Academy.

This opportunity is designed for an aspiring analyst to develop applied skills in match, training, and recruitment analysis while undertaking the MSc Sports Performance Analysis programme.

The role will focus on the capture, processing, and interpretation of performance data, supporting coaching and recruitment processes through video and data-driven insights.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain real-world experience within a professional football environment, with exposure to both applied performance analysis and interdisciplinary support teams.

Overview

Time Commitment:
The placement will require approximately the equivalent of 2 training days per week plus match days, which may include evenings/weekends. The MSc taught component is delivered each Wednesday from September-December and February-May.

Location:
University of Gloucestershire and Swindon Town FC, with occasional travel to other sites within England.

Duration:
Maximum of 1 year (aligned with MSc study).

Key Responsibilities

Film and code matches and training sessions to support post-match and post-training analysis.
Assist in the delivery of performance analysis workflows, including tagging, coding, and data visualisation.
Analyse match and training data to identify key performance trends and support coaching feedback.
Contribute to opposition and recruitment analysis, including player profiling and benchmarking.
Integrate multiple data sources (e.g., video, event data, GPS) to support performance insights.
Produce clear and concise reports and visual outputs for coaches and players.
Maintain and update relevant performance databases and analysis systems.

Requirements

Strong interest in performance analysis within professional football.
Competence in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and data presentation tools.
Experience with, or willingness to learn, video analysis software (e.g., Hudl, Sportscode, Nacsport).
Ability to interpret and communicate performance data effectively to different audiences.
Strong organisational and communication skills.
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
