About Us
H2 Cognitive Designs (H2CD) is a health technology company working at the intersection of cognitive science, clinical research, and large-scale digital assessment. We build platforms used to measure cognitive performance across clinical trials, occupational health programmes, and large institutional deployments in the UK and internationally.
Our clients include demanding and security-conscious organisations across healthcare, national institutions, and sectors where the performance and reliability of what we build genuinely matter. Our infrastructure is cloud-native, and our engineering team is distributed, collaborative, highly skilled and highly specialised. We have a rapidly growing portfolio of significant projects, and this role sits at the heart of how we deliver them.
The Role
This is a core user experience and user interface design position. You will work day-to-day alongside product managers, project leads and developers — developing user knowledge, identifying platform needs, and designing low-fidelity wireframes and high-fidelity mockups. You will review developed products for design accuracy and conduct user testing of new features.
You will own user experience as an area of practice within the team. That means being in the conversation early, pushing back when an idea goes against UX/UI best practices, and making human-centered design central to our product philosophy.
What You Will Be Doing
Conduct user research through interviews, surveys, and user testing to identify needs and pain points
Translate research findings into personas, user journeys, and experience maps
Design wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes at varying levels of fidelity
Build and maintain design systems and component libraries for consistency at scale
Deliver detailed design specs and assets for developer use
Collaborate with product managers and developers to align on requirements and technical feasibility
Ensure all designs meet accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA and Section 508)
Review developer output for design consistency and user friendliness
What We Are Looking For
An investigative mindset — the ability to independently examine, gather information, and synthesize findings about user needs and preferences
Strong design skills — as adept at typography, color, layout, and iconography as they are at determining interaction patterns, interface states, and managing platform design consistency
Experience with interface design tools such as Figma, Penpot, or Sketch expected
Accessibility credentials and coursework from the likes of IAAP and Deque University a major plus
Clear written communication — ability to draft documentation
Experience in a healthcare, clinical research, or academic software environment is a strong advantage
To apply, submit a CV, portfolio, and a short cover letter explaining your interest and relevant experience. Informal enquiries to [email protected]. No agency applications. This role is not eligible for UK visa sponsorship. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK independently and for the duration of their employment.
