Shared Space and Church From Scratch
Shared Space is a growing network of Christian charity stores founded by Church From Scratch. Person Specification
- A passion for social media, creativity, and communication
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Creative mindset with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to produce engaging written, visual and video content
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks
- Confident using social media platforms and digital tools
- A proactive approach with the ability to work independently
- Good knowledge of Google Documents
- Experience with content creation, design tools, photography, or video editing would be essential
Role Purpose and Key Expectations (Impact)
- Ensure Shared Space’s Christian values, beliefs and ethos shine through all communications and content as a radically inclusive organisation
- Keep regularly updated with organisational news, activities, and impact.
- Help organise and support delivery of a variation of organisational events, projects and initiatives.
- Plan, create, edit and review all social media accounts and public-facing communications.
- Build and maintain a professional LinkedIn presence that volunteers and staff can link their own experience to
- Identify and build relationships with corporate partners, like-minded organisations and potential donors, including fund-matching and corporate giving opportunities.
- Coordinate with the leadership team on upcoming events and public and internal publicity, producing supporting communications material.
- Provide creative direction across internal and external materials, flyers, brochures, presentations, online posts and written content, ensuring consistent branding.
- Contribute to internal communications, including drafting news updates fortnightly, email campaigns and volunteer recognition content.
- Create and archive content in a structured way so that material remains usable and accessible, regardless of the length of tenure in the role.
Role Relationships
Working closely with the Operations Manager, Vision and Team Lead, Faith Lead, Store Managers, volunteers and the wider staff team, you will support the smooth and effective running of Shared Space’s communications, attending trustee meetings as needed.
Dimensions of the Post
- Leading and expanding Shared Space’s public and online presence
- Design and review of internal and external communication material.
- Managing internal communications of events and recognition of volunteer contributions.
- Supporting increasingly joined-up communications with Church from Scratch, reflecting our shared mission.
- Ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, health and safety, safeguarding and other relevant legislation.
- Ensuring your work aligns with Shared Space’s vision, values, beliefs and priorities.
- Being available for occasional weekend and evening working.
- Building relationships with local businesses, charities and corporate partners to support fundraising and fund-matching opportunities.
Core Duties / Required Outcomes
Online Presence
- Promote the charity’s vision and Christian ethos to external stakeholders.
- Create professional and welcoming online material.
- Manage and expand Shared Space’s social media presence, with lead responsibility for Instagram and an expanding remit across LinkedIn and other platforms.
- Build and maintain a LinkedIn presence that volunteers and staff can link their professional profiles to, kept regularly updated with organisational news and impact.
- Create and archive content for future use, ensuring continuity of the online presence regardless of the length of tenure in the role.
- Update website news section or facilitate the linkage of online platforms to regular updates on website
Internal Communications
- Create a supportive organisational culture where staff and volunteers feel valued, included, and part of the Shared Space and Church from Scratch family.
- Highlight and celebrate volunteer contributions across stores and sites.
- Support and help develop the relationship with Church from Scratch.
- Oversee Shared Space’s electronic and printed communication channels.
- Coordinate clear, timely communication with volunteers about events and opportunities across sites.
- Bi-weekly communications with volunteers including news letter.
External Communications
- Identify and work with operations to manage external communications and partnerships.
- Expand and consolidate Shared Space’s online media presence, including, if appropriate, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok and X.
- Build Shared Space’s profile within relevant charity and corporate networks to support visibility, partnerships and donor engagement.
Event Management
- Help to organise and support events and initiatives
- Oversee signups, engagement and publicising of Shared Space and Church from Scratch events
- Remain as point of contact for volunteers and members during preparation period of events and supporting with logistics and attendance
Donor and Partnership Development
- Support communications and advertisements with corporate partners and like-minded organisations to support fundraising, including fund-matching schemes.
- Develop donor-facing communications and stewardship material to support income generation.
- Build Shared Space’s presence within relevant sector networks (such as Beacon, Charity Connect and Charity Excellence) and corporate giving platforms, to grow visibility and partnership opportunities.
Enabling the Christian Ethos
- Ensure all activities and communications reflect Shared Space’s Christian ethos with warmth, authenticity and radical inclusion.
- Support increasingly joined-up communications between Shared Space and Church from Scratch, reflecting our closely aligned mission.
Safeguarding, Health and Safety and Statutory Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with Shared Space’s Policies and Procedures, including Safeguarding and Health and Safety policies, in line with existing and future legislation.
- Always pass on hunches and concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead
- Ensure all communications and content comply with GDPR and other relevant data protection requirements.
Autonomy and Decision-Making
You will operate with significant autonomy in shaping day-to-day content, messaging and partnership outreach, working closely with the Operations Manager. Longer-term strategic oversight sits with the Vision and Team Lead and Trustees.
