The Role:
We’re looking for a proactive and driven Nightshift Warehouse Assistant Manager to support the leadership of our York night operation. This is a fast-paced and hands-on role where you’ll help ensure all picking, consolidation, and loading activities are completed accurately and on time keeping our deliveries running smoothly and our customers satisfied.
You’ll play a key role in maintaining exceptional service levels, supporting team performance, and ensuring compliance with food safety, health & safety, and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Nightshift Warehouse Manager in leading the goods-out operation
- Ensure all picking, consolidation, and loading is completed accurately, on time, and in line with schedules
- Help manage and develop a team of up to 20–60 warehouse colleagues
- Ensure vehicles are loaded in the correct sequence for efficient route departures
- Oversee completion of route paperwork and invoicing accurately and on time
- Promote a customer-first, solutions-focused team culture
- Support with recruitment, training, coaching, and development of the team
- Maintain high standards of warehouse hygiene, housekeeping, and safety
- Ensure compliance with food safety, HACCP, and health & safety regulations
- Monitor and report on KPIs, service levels, and productivity
- Provide management cover when required and support wider operational leadership
- Maintain equipment to safe and compliant standards
- Drive continuous improvement and share ideas to enhance performance
About You:
We’re looking for a motivated and organised individual who thrives in a nightshift environment and enjoys leading from the front.
Essential:
- Proven experience as a Warehouse Supervisor or Manager
- Strong understanding of goods-out and warehouse operations, ideally within Foodservice or FMCG
- Experience leading and developing teams, including coaching and performance management
- Solid knowledge of health & safety, food safety, HACCP, and compliance procedures
- Strong IT and organisational skills, including experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced environment
- A proactive, detail-oriented, and solutions-focused approach
Desirable:
- Experience managing budgets and costs
- MHE or forklift licence
- Experience using RF scanners or voice picking systems
