The Opportunity
We are recruiting a Production Supervisor – Day Shift to play a key role in driving production performance and leading our manufacturing teams.
Reporting to the Production Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations on shift, ensuring production targets are achieved, and fostering a positive, safety-first working environment.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Team Leader or Supervisor looking to take ownership of production performance, support continuous improvement initiatives, and lead by example within a growing manufacturing business.
You will be a proactive, organised, and hands-on leader who enjoys developing people, improving processes, and delivering operational excellence in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities of a Production Supervisor – Day Shift:
Performance Management, People & KPIs -
- Manage performance and development, conduct one-to-ones, support disciplinary processes, and lead daily production performance across your area/shift.
- Lead, motivate, and manage production teams to achieve operational objectives.
- Oversee Team Leaders and production lines to ensure departmental performance targets are met.
- Record KPI data during shifts and report performance to management.
- Manage return-to-work discussions and low-level HR matters.
- Record and manage KPIs in line with company policy.
- Analyse KPI performance monthly and implement improvement plans where required.
Communication & Planning -
- Plan labour requirements and production activities for the shift.
- Ensure effective communication across shifts and departments.
- Coordinate overtime, break cover arrangements, and shift handovers.
Escalation & Authority -
- Take accountability for operational decisions, priorities, and outcomes within your area of responsibility.
Compliance & Audits -
- Conduct audits and ensure sustained compliance with company procedures and standards.
- Enforce company policies, procedures, and operational controls.
Training & Competence -
- Develop team capability and succession plans.
- Identify skills gaps and authorise training requirements.
- Develop and mentor future team leaders and successors.
Health & Safety -
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety requirements.
- Report faults, hazards, and operational issues promptly.
- Take ownership of safety performance across the shift.
- Investigate incidents and implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Drive continuous health and safety improvements.
Quality -
- Conduct quality checks and accurately record results.
- Take ownership of quality performance across the department.
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) activities to resolve quality issues.
- Ensure products are manufactured to specification.
- Report defects and monitor waste performance.
Housekeeping & 5S -
- Maintain high housekeeping standards across production areas.
- Set 5S standards, audit compliance, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Production Output -
- Plan and deliver weekly and monthly production targets.
- Take accountability for output, efficiency, and quality performance.
- Ensure production schedules are achieved.
- Support machine set-ups and changeovers to maximise productivity.
Equipment & Machinery Capability -
- Carry out basic maintenance activities where appropriate.
- Liaise with maintenance and quality teams to prioritise and resolve equipment issues.
- Ensure machinery availability, reliability, and continuous improvement.
- Maintain competence across machine groups and support training of others.
- Develop multi-skilled capability within the team.
Work Instructions & SOPs -
- Allocate work effectively and manage workflow throughout the shift.
- Ensure machinery is operated in accordance with SOPs and work instructions.
- Review and maintain work instructions to ensure they remain accurate, suitable, and compliant.
- Monitor adherence to established procedures.
Problem Solving -
- Lead structured troubleshooting and problem-solving activities.
- Investigate operational issues and report outcomes and corrective actions.
Continuous Improvement -
- Drive operational strategy and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality, safety, and efficiency.
Records & Documentation -
- Review production records and documentation for accuracy and compliance.
- Monitor trends and use data to support operational decision-making and improvements.
Requirements to be Successful as a Production Supervisor – Day Shift:
- Previous experience as a Supervisor, Team Leader, or similar leadership role within a production or manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes (mechanical knowledge would be advantageous).
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and lead from the front.
- Proactive, solutions-focused approach to problem solving.
- Calm and effective under pressure.
- Organised, resilient, and hands-on, ensuring production requirements are achieved on time.
- Positive role model with the ability to mentor, motivate, and support team members.
- Experience supporting HR administration and people management activities.
- Confident using Microsoft Office applications.
- Good understanding of health and safety requirements within manufacturing.
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
Working Hours & Pay:
- Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm.
- 40 hours per week.
- 1-hour unpaid lunch break.
- Two paid 15-minute breaks.
- £13.00 – £18.20 per hour depending on experience.
- Advertised rate reflects starting rate plus overtime multiple.
- Overtime available subject to business requirements.
- Pay progression based on experience, performance, and development.
Location: Free on-site parking / Accessible by public transport, Malvern Link, Worcestershire (WR14 1AL). Conveniently located for candidates commuting from: Worcester, Ledbury, Hereford, Droitwich, Pershore, Evesham, Tewkesbury.
