Chrysalis Assessment & Support Centre is a Residential Family Assessment Centre which provides support, advice, and teaching to parents. Chrysalis works independently and provides thorough expert evidence-based parenting assessments to placing Local Authorities and the Court.
The role of the Family Support Worker is to work with parents in assisting them to develop their parenting skills and understanding in terms of all aspects of meeting the needs of their child and ensuring that at all times the child is safeguarded.
Successful candidates would observe parents providing care to their children, offer advice and support to promote independence and ensuring your observational notes are concise and factual. The Family Support Worker role is a key part of the assessment process as your teaching, support and advice will be instrumental in the parents’ development throughout their assessment process. In addition, the written observations and diary notes in respect of the work, the support and advice you have given, support the assessing Social Workers decisions and outcomes.
At Chrysalis the parents that attend may do so with their own vulnerabilities such as a learning difficulty/disability, historical/recent substance misuse, a child parent, mental health issues/concerns, ADHD, Asperger's etc. As such it would be required that any candidate would have experience in some of these areas as you would be required to adapt to the differing needs and vulnerabilities of parents, which can at times be challenging.

Person Specification: Essential Requirements of the post are:
- Hold a Level 3 or above qualification in Children and Young People’s workforce or equivalent. (i.e. Health & Social Care, Working with Children, Young people, and Families, Early Childhood Studies, Diploma in Early Years etc.)
- Has previous experience in working in at least one of the following safeguarding, children and families, children’s health, and development and/or in a Residential Setting.
- Have experience of observing and recording interactions of service users/children and families.
- Have a knowledge of relevant child protection legislation and other guidelines.
- Have a knowledge of children’s development.
- You understand the forms and effects of oppression, discrimination, and disadvantage.
- You have an ability to communicate clearly in writing.
- You have excellent interpersonal communication skills at a range of levels.
- You have good computer literacy skills.
- You have excellent observation and recording skills.
- You are able to support and promote independence.
- Will have a clear DBS check inclusive of both the Adults and Children’s barred list.
- Able to work on a shift basis including weekends, public holidays, and sleep-ins.
- Motivation to work on own initiative.
- Able to work effectively and contribute as part of the team.
- Demonstrate a commitment to personal, professional development.
- Positive and creative disposition
- Understands the importance of maintaining professional boundaries.
