Overview
We are seeking to appoint an experienced, proactive and highly motivated Business Manager to join our leadership team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the effective management and strategic development of our school's finances, HR, premises and operational contracts . This is a full/part time position, with flexibility around how the hours are worked. We can offer one of the following working patterns:
- 8:00am – 4:00pm working 4 days per week (with 30 min lunch)
- 8:00am – 4:00pm working 5 days per week (with 30 min lunch)
- Full-time weekly hours (37.5 hrs) condensed across 4 longer working days
We welcome applications from candidates able to start in either July or September 2026, offering flexibility to support existing commitments and notice periods.
The successful candidate will also attend six Full Governing Board meetings and three Finance, Personnel and Premises Committee meetings each year, which are usually held in the evening.

Key responsibilities:
- Manage the school's financial planning, budgeting, and reporting processes to ensure fiscal responsibility and sustainability.
- Oversee administrative operations, facilities management, and resource allocation, managing value-for-money procurement, school lettings, and extended childcare services.
- Support human resources functions such as staff recruitment, onboarding, payroll and performance management.
- Liaise with external agencies, suppliers, and stakeholders to foster positive relationships and secure necessary services.
- Coordinate with teaching staff to understand operational needs and facilitate effective communication across departments.
- Supervise site maintenance, manage health and safety compliance, mitigate operational risks, and coordinate staff safety training.
- Develop and implement policies that promote efficiency, compliance, and best practices within the school.
- Attend half-termly Governing Board and committee meetings to provide strategic updates, and collaborate with external supplier networks.
- Maintain absolute confidentiality and strictly uphold school policies regarding safeguarding, child protection, and equal opportunities.
- Support the Headteacher with daily administrative needs, attend staff briefings, and adapt to evolving school priorities as required.
Qualifications
- Strong leadership and management experience, including overseeing teams, resources and administrative/financial procedures.
- Proven ability to set and manage budgets and produce financial reports. An understanding of the CFR framework would be beneficial but not essential.
- High-level numeracy, literacy and IT skills, especially Excel/Word, with excellent attention to detail.
- Educated to A‑Level (or equivalent) with GCSE Maths & English
- Strong communication and relationship‑building skills with staff, governors, parents, pupils and contractors.
- Sound understanding of data protection, confidentiality, health & safety, and ability to use online systems effectively.
- Personally demonstrates integrity, organisation, resilience, problem‑solving, flexibility, and a strong commitment to safeguarding.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
Pay: £42,839.00-£51,356.00 per year
