About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Functional Tester to support major rail signalling and commissioning projects in Australia.
This role is well suited to a UK signalling testing professional with experience carrying out functional testing activities during possessions, blockades, commissioning weekends and safety-critical rail works.
The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking signalling testing activities to ensure works are delivered safely, accurately and in accordance with approved standards, procedures and project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
As a Functional Tester, you will be responsible for:
- Carrying out signalling functional testing activities during site testing, commissioning and possession works.
- Working closely with Tester in Charge (TIC), Principles Testers, Assistant Testers and project teams.
- Reviewing test plans, test logs, work packs and commissioning documentation relevant to assigned testing activities.
- Ensuring all testing is carried out in accordance with approved procedures, standards and safety requirements.
- Executing functional testing of signalling systems, equipment and interfaces in accordance with approved test specifications.
- Liaising with project managers, design teams, construction teams, client representatives and operational stakeholders as required.
- Identifying, recording and reporting testing issues, defects and non-conformances.
- Completing test documentation accurately and submitting records in line with project requirements.
- Supporting commissioning activities and staged project handovers.
- Ensuring safe working practices are maintained at all times.
- Providing technical input and feedback during testing and commissioning activities.
- Supporting the safe handback of signalling assets into operational service.
Skills and Experience
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Significant experience in rail signalling testing and commissioning.
- Previous experience as a Functional Tester or equivalent signalling testing role.
- Strong knowledge of signalling systems, interlockings, trackside equipment and train detection systems.
- Experience undertaking testing activities during possessions, blockades or commissioning weekends.
- Ability to read and interpret signalling plans, control tables, scheme plans, wiring diagrams and test documentation.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Strong understanding of safety-critical rail environments.
- UK rail signalling experience, ideally on Network Rail or similar infrastructure projects.
- IRSE Licence or relevant signalling testing competencies, highly regarded.
- Willingness to relocate to Australia and adapt to Australian rail standards, client requirements and local network rules.
Qualifications and Competencies
- Degree in Electrical / Electronics Engineering is essential.
- Relevant rail signalling testing qualifications or equivalent industry experience.
- IRSE Licence essential.
- Australian competency conversion or assessment may be required depending on client and project.
