Full job description

This post has arisen to meet demand driven by the expansion of Theatre activity and retirements.

We are looking to appoint a Locum Consultant Anaesthetist with an interest in:

General Anaesthesia
Trauma and Orthopaedics
Obstetrics and Gynaecology

DIMENSIONS OF JOB

10 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week comprising:

9 PAs dedicated to anaesthetic sessions during the week and weekend trauma lists
1 PAs allocated to Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) for CPD

Job Planning

The Job plan will be a prospective agreement between the appointee and the deputy clinical directors for TACC, that sets out a consultant’s duties, responsibilities and objectives for the period of employment. It covers all aspects of a consultant’s professional practice including clinical work, teaching and managerial responsibilities and provides a clear schedule of commitments. In addition, it includes personal objectives, including details of links to wider service objectives, and details of support required by the consultant to fulfil the job plan and the objectives. Changes having budgetary or contractual implications would also need the agreement of the chief executive

Audit & Teaching

One half day per month is dedicated to audit and teaching during which time all routine work is suspended. All staff are expected to attend except for those providing emergency care cover and those on leave. The directorate meeting is also held at this time. It is assumed that every member of the department will play a full part in formal and informal teaching of medical and other staff, and this is recognized as part of Supporting Professional Activities (SPA).

CPD / Study Leave

All members of the Department are encouraged to take study leave and will be expected to undertake CME in line with the Royal College of Anaesthetists CPD requirements.
