Duration of Contract: 3 Year Fixed term contract. Renewal subject to review
Salary: UH9 £58,225 to £69,488 pro rata pa by annual increments on achieving designated skills and experience
Annual Leave: 35 days (pro rata) plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year

The University of Hertfordshire is opening a new Medical School with the first cohort of students starting in September 2026. There is currently an enthusiastic academic and clinical core team, developing, adopting and adapting the MBBS curriculum in line with City St George’s Medical School, University of London, who are our sponsor. We are now seeking to expand our team to implement the curriculum in preparation for the arrival of our students. Newly appointed staff will receive full support from our existing team.
Main duties and responsibilities
The MBBS Academic Lead Year 1 role is a clinical and professional leadership role, suitable for a registered medical practitioner (MBBS or equivalent) from any specialty or a General Practitioner (GP). The post holder will lead and have oversight of the clinical and professional aspects of the MBBS Year 1 programme at the University of Hertfordshire (UH), delivered in partnership with City St George’s, University of London. The role includes oversight of professionalism and ensuring that effective academic and pastoral support is provided for all students.
Skills and experience required
The successful candidate will have experience in teaching and/or assessment of clinical skills in a healthcare professionals programme and/or experience of teaching clinical skills in a healthcare setting. They will have demonstrated experience in academic leadership and quality assurance and experience in teaching and curriculum development at the undergraduate level in clinical/medical education.
They will be able to demonstrate a commitment to innovation in teaching and learning, with a willingness to embrace new methods and technologies, alongside strong organisational and administrative skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Qualifications required
A medical degree (MBBS or equivalent).

In the course of our work and University-led activities, there may be external contractual obligations where a further Enhanced Check is required. DBS checks may require renewal in line with policy.
