- Qualification in childcare preferred: NC , HNC / SVQ Level 7 or equivalent.
- working towards qualification or Training can be provided.
- Childcare experience is essential.
- Full enhanced PVG application is essential and can be completed inhouse.
Early Learning and Childcare practitioner Job Description.
Practitioners are accountable to the Senior Staff, Manager and the Owner.
The Practitioner will:
1. Adhere to the Centres policies and the staff handbook
2. Complete an induction on the centres policies, health and safety procedure.
3. Uniforms: Wear an appropriate uniform for the job: Uniform tops can be ordered through the manager. Black trouser (no jeans) and comfortable dark coloured shoes are preferred. We prefer staff to wear long sleeved tops under their uniform when their feeling the cold. Tattoos should also be covered up at all times.
4. It is good practice to arrive at least 5 / 10 minutes before the session’s starts, if possible.
5. Provide a safe and stimulating environment for the child you are working with - always bearing in mind your code of conduct and the national care standards. There are copies of these in the office.
6. Ensure each child has their own folders 1 for their care plan and 1 for their creative work.
7. Put in place planning methods so you can track and plan what you do every day in line with in the moment planning .
8. Develop Curriculum termly plans, taking into account the children’s views, ideas and capabilities – in line with in the moment planning and work alongside national frameworks i.e building the ambition and curriculum for excellence.
- Carry out general domestic care duties (changing, toileting, dressing - when pvg comes in ) and participate in learning programs designed to encourage and develop the children’s self-help and hygiene skills
- Monitor behavour and development - passing on information to the Senior staff
11. Learning journals and record keeping are to be kept up to date and are to be done during the sessions.
12. Extend / organise and set up areas and activities for the children.
13. Set up the room / areas in accordance with curriculum plans
14. Monitoring and evaluation activities and experiences to promote children’s learning and development - updating planning sheets.
15. Keep a record of the child’s development and progress in their individual folders and learning journals passing
16. Work with children who have additional support needs, supporting their development in line with GIRFEC and outside agencies advice. Reporting to our ASN co – Ordinator.
17. Report any suspected Additional support needs to the manager and ASN co – ordinator – i.e. speech and language difficulties etc
18. Attend ASN child’s planning meetings if required
19. Promote all areas of children’s development including: working with SHANARRI, GIRFEC and the Curriculum for Excellence.
20. Report any breakages or unsafe equipment to the manager.
21. Working as part of a team to establish and maintain positive relationships with parent/ carers of the children attending the service and encourage positive parental involvement.
22. Meet with parents / Senior key worker / school teacher / other professionals to discuss development and progress and to pass on information
23. You may be required to provide the ASN co - ordinator of additional support needs - a report of the child’s progress, next steps and support required.
24. Closely liaise with other members of staff in the Centre
25. Attend relevant training , staff meetings as required to keep up to date with current legislation, methods and best practice.
26. Adhere to the Centre’s Policies and Procedures at all times, including Confidentiality.
27. Meet annually with the Manager for a formal appraisal.
28. Meet regularly for support and supervision
29. Take part in training inhouse and your own to meet SSC CPD requirements.
