Job Summary
We have an exciting new vacancy within our HSEQ department as we are looking for a new Environmental Specialist to join the team. The role supports the Business in maintaining compliance with environmental legislation, permits, licences, authorisations and management system requirements.
The role provides technical environmental advice and support across site, including environmental monitoring, data analysis, regulator submissions, environmental improvement projects, incident investigation, audit and inspection activity.
The post holder will help drive continual improvement in environmental performance, supporting compliance with ISO 14001, ASI requirements, site permits and wider sustainability objectives.

Key Responsibilities
- Support the application, variation, amendment and ongoing monitoring of environmental permits, licences, authorisations, consents and exemptions.
- Monitor compliance with environmental legislation, site permits, regulatory obligations and business management system requirements.
- Prepare, review and submit environmental data and reports to SEPA, local authorities, statutory bodies and internal stakeholders as required.
- Provide technical and specialist environmental support to site departments, including advice on environmental controls, permit requirements and improvement actions.
- Support environmental monitoring and sampling activities, including air emissions, water, waste, land, soil and groundwater where applicable.
- Analyse environmental data to identify trends, risks, improvement opportunities and potential compliance concerns.
- Support the development and implementation of environmental management plans, strategies, campaigns, objectives and improvement plans.
- Act as a focal point for environmental improvement and sustainability initiatives, including carbon reduction, resource efficiency, biodiversity, land management and waste minimisation.
- Support environmental aspects of site projects, Management of Change, contractor activity and operational changes.
- Undertake environmental audits, inspections and field checks; record findings, advise responsible managers and track actions to closure.
- Investigate environmental incidents, near misses and non-conformances, identifying root causes and suitable corrective/preventive actions.
- Maintain and improve environmental management system documentation, procedures, registers and records.
- Support ISO 14001, ASI and other internal/external audit and assurance activities.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual environmental performance reports in a timely manner.
- Liaise with regulators, consultants, contractors and internal stakeholders in a professional and constructive manner.
- Support development of improved environmental data systems, dashboards, mapping tools or GIS-based information where beneficial.
What we are looking for:
- Degree, HND or equivalent experience in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Chemistry, Sustainability or a relevant technical discipline.
- Experience in an environmental, sustainability, compliance or regulated industrial role.
- Good understanding of environmental legislation, permits, compliance obligations and management systems.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret environmental data and identify trends or risks.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear reports and communicate technical matters to non-specialists.
- Confident undertaking site inspections, audits and field-based environmental checks.
- Able to work with operational teams and provide practical, proportionate environmental advice.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage deadlines, actions and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Able to investigate incidents and support root cause analysis.
- Competent in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Desirable
- Experience working on a regulated industrial, manufacturing, COMAH or PPC/permitted site.
- Working knowledge of ISO 14001 and/or ASI requirements.
- Experience dealing with SEPA or other environmental regulators.
- Experience with environmental monitoring, sampling programmes or contractor management.
- Experience using Power BI, GIS, SharePoint, or similar data/reporting systems.
- Knowledge of carbon reporting, waste management, water management, land quality, biodiversity or environmental risk assessment.
- Associate membership or working towards membership of IEMA, or another relevant professional body.

- Friday: 0800-1300
