Overview
Here at Fowey gallants sailing club we are looking for a Part Time Assistant Bar Manager to join our small hard working team.
You will work with the Club General Manager to build on the success of the social aspects of FGSC. In the absence of the Club General Manager, you will ensure that FGSC is run efficiently and is secured prior to leaving the premises.
Ideally you will have previous experience of the industry or a willingness to learn.
Hours will vary depending on the time of year, but will be mostly evenings and weekends.
Salaried position on an annualised hours contract of 25 hours a week ~ Immediate start
Duties
Upholding the good standing of FGSC
- Offer excellent customer service; dealing confidently and positively with a diverse range of customers.
- Ensure a welcoming atmosphere; building good relationships with members and visiting sailors
- Promote FGSC activities; being aware of facilities and activities offered by FGSC in order to answer the enquiries of members and visiting sailors.
Bar Operations & Service
- When necessary, ensure FGSC opens on time and is ready for business.
- Greet customers, offer recommendations, serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, bar snacks and hot drinks.
- Handle cash and card transactions, operate the EPOS/till systems and, when necessary, balance the till at the end of the week.
- Monitor levels during service, stock rotation, replenishing fridges, spirits, snacks & glassware.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the bar area, upstairs seating area and outside areas during service. Clear tables (including food), empty bins, wash glassware and quickly handle any spills to ensure a safe working environment.
- Communicate with restaurant, take bookings when required.
- Manage waste and recycling.
- Adhere strictly to licensing laws, membership regulations age-verification policies (eg Challenge 25), club etiquette and health & safety regulations.
- When necessary, ensure that the bar is closed down and FGSC is locked and secure.
Cellar Management (As advised by the Club General Manager)
- Receive, check & unpack deliveries ensuring accuracy & proper storage.
- Keep the cellar clean, organised and at the optimal temperature for keg/cask storage. Rack up, tap & change barrels as required. Keep the bottle store clean & organised
- Flush & clean beer lines regularly to ensure the highest quality of product pour.
- Ensure older stock is moved to the front & rotated regularly to minimise wastage.
- Process & dispose of empty kegs, cases & bottles and record any wastage or spoiled stock in the ullage book.
Assist the FGSC General Club Manger
- Think creatively about how the club can serve members and visiting yachts people more effectively.
- Assist in promoting and setting up for events,
- Assist with administrative or practical tasks as required to ensure the smooth running of the activities of FGSC.
- Any other duties commensurate with the role.
Skills
- Proven experience in supervising or managing a team within a restaurant or hospitality environment.
- Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking, and food safety protocols.
- Experience in serving, hospitality, or barista roles is highly desirable.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to multitask effectively under pressure.
- Leadership qualities with the ability to motivate and develop team members.
- Good understanding of food production processes within a kitchen or bar setting.
- Previous hotel or restaurant experience is advantageous.
- Strong communication skills to liaise effectively with staff and customers alike.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations related to food service environments.
