Located near Fowey, the site has a special microclimate that permits management without the use of chemical sprays. This role is very much a hands-on position, which requires the ability to work unsupervised for periods.
The site has been organic for 20years; there is an opportunity to contribute to the development and implementation of new and innovative cultural and physical orchard and vineyard management practices that optimise fruit production and quality within an organic setting.
- Vineyard – carry out core tasks including pruning, canopy management, vine training and weed control, harvesting
- Orchard – carry out core tasks including summer and winter pruning, tree planting, harvesting
- Grounds – maintain grounds and gardens, vineyard and orchard infrastructure and trellising, garden planting and maintenance
- Light machinery operation and maintenance – operate vineyard machinery, perform basic routine service and maintenance of machinery, ensure machinery is functional and kept in good repair
- Record keeping – maintain accurate work records detailing labour hours per job, harvest records, vineyard and orchard applications
- Ability to perform physical tasks and work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Due diligence taken to execute Vineyard/Orchard Management plan in a timely fashion while ensuing safety and quality of work
- Ability to work safely in a horticultural environment, with a focus on compliance with all health, safety, and environmental standards
- Monitoring of pest and diseases
- Full UK driving licence and right to work in the UK
Summary
As a Vineyard Technician, you will be essential in maintaining the health and productivity of our vineyards. Reporting to the Vineyard Manager, your role involves utilizing core skills such as horticulture and equipment repair, alongside premium skills in irrigation. You will also apply relevant skills, including mechanical knowledge and maintenance, to ensure optimal vineyard operations.
