Full Time (Part Time Considered)
Location: Truro, Cornwall
Salary: £35,000–£50,000 DOE + Bonus Scheme + Benefits
Key Requirements
We are looking for a lawyer who can demonstrate:
- Qualification as a Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive, or active progression towards qualification through CILEX or SQE
- Experience managing your own litigation caseload with appropriate supervision
- Strong knowledge of dispute resolution and litigation procedures
- Excellent client care and relationship management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including drafting and negotiation
- Good understanding of AML compliance, risk management, and regulatory obligations
- Excellent organisational and file management skills
- A proactive, commercially aware, and collaborative approach to work
Experience in one or more of the following areas would be particularly advantageous:
- Contentious probate
- Commercial and contract disputes
- Property litigation
- Professional negligence claims
- Landlord and tenant disputes
- Agricultural and land disputes
- Family law matters

Penderlaw Solicitors, a well-established and respected law firm in the heart of Truro, is seeking a Litigation Lawyer to join our successful and highly regarded Litigation Department.

You will work on a diverse range of contentious matters, benefiting from significant client exposure and genuine opportunities for professional development. Lawyers within the department are encouraged to shape their caseloads around their strengths, interests, and career aspirations.
The firm is committed to supporting professional growth and will provide financial assistance, study leave, and examination leave where appropriate for those working towards qualification.
The role is primarily office-based and full-time, although part-time and flexible working arrangements may be considered for the right candidate.
Key ResponsibilitiesLitigation and Dispute Resolution
You will advise and act for clients across a broad range of contentious matters, including:
- Contentious probate disputes
- Commercial disputes
- Contract disputes
- Professional negligence claims
- Property disputes, including property fraud
- Landlord and tenant disputes
- Agricultural and land disputes
- Debt recovery matters
Family Law Matters
The successful candidate may also undertake family law work, including:
- Divorce, including high-net-worth and clean break matters
- Separation agreements
- Cohabitation disputes
- Child arrangements, specific issue applications, and prohibited steps orders
- Non-molestation orders and urgent applications
- Prenuptial agreements
- Financial remedy proceedings
Commercial Matters
Depending on experience and interest, you may also undertake:
- Partnership agreements
- Business Lasting Powers of Attorney
- Commercial disputes
- Debt recovery work
Compliance, Client Care and Teamwork
You will also be responsible for:
- Managing your own caseload with appropriate supervision
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, internal procedures, AML obligations, and source of funds requirements where applicable
- Delivering exceptional client care and maintaining strong professional relationships
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across the firm, including Property and Private Client departments
- Supporting the continued growth and success of the department through effective file management, commercial awareness, and high service standards
- Participating in departmental and firm-wide training initiatives
Person Specification
The successful candidate will be:
- A qualified or part-qualified legal professional
- Experienced in managing their own litigation matters
- Technically competent and committed to delivering high-quality legal services
- Client-focused with excellent interpersonal skills
- A confident communicator with strong drafting and negotiation abilities
- Organised, efficient, and capable of managing competing priorities
- Commercially aware and proactive in identifying solutions
- A collaborative team player who enjoys working closely with colleagues
- Keen to broaden their expertise and contribute to the continued success of the department
