Self-Employed Event Styling Assistant
We are looking for a reliable, practical and hard-working Event Styling Assistant to support our busy events team.
This is a hands-on role, helping with venue styling, chair covers, chair sashes, balloon installations, larger event installations, collections and preparation at our unit. You will work alongside our team to ensure every event is completed efficiently, safely and to a high standard.
The role covers weddings, parties, corporate events, celebrations and other venue installations.
We are looking for someone who works quickly, follows instructions well and is happy getting stuck into the physical side of event styling. Previous experience is helpful but not essential, as full training will be provided.
Hours will vary depending on our workload and the successful applicant’s availability, experience and ability to take on responsibility. Some weeks may only offer one or two hours, while busier weeks may offer considerably more. This is not a fixed-hours position.
Responsibilities
Prepare, count and organise styling items at our unit before events.
Fit chair covers, chair sashes and other venue styling items.
Prepare, transport and install balloon displays.
Assist with event set-ups at venues.
Support with larger installations, including ceiling installations and working from A-frame ladders where required.
Dismantle and collect styling items after events.
Load and unload vehicles, equipment and styling stock.
Clean, pack away and return items to the correct place after bookings.
Work efficiently to ensure installations and collections are completed on time.
Follow instructions, venue requirements and health and safety procedures.
Capture occasional photographs and short video clips during set-ups for social media.
Build positive relationships with local venues and suppliers.
Represent the business professionally when working around clients, venues and other suppliers.
Handle occasional client or venue enquiries professionally.
Skills and Experience
You must be physically fit and comfortable with lifting, carrying and working on your feet.
You must be comfortable working from ladders and at height.
You must be reliable, punctual and able to commit to agreed bookings.
You should be able to work quickly without compromising the standard of your work.
You must be able to follow instructions and work well as part of a team.
You should be organised, practical and able to use your initiative.
You must remain calm and focused when working to tight set-up times.
Previous experience in events, hospitality, balloons, venue styling, floristry or practical manual work would be helpful, but it is not essential.
A full UK driving licence is preferred.
Experience driving a van would be an advantage, although training can be provided.
As this is a self-employed role, you will be responsible for your own tax and National Insurance.
What We Offer
Full training in chair styling, balloons, venue set-ups and event installations.
Flexible, varied hours based around our event bookings.
The opportunity to take on more work as your experience, reliability and responsibilities develop.
Experience working across weddings, parties, corporate events and other celebrations.
The opportunity to grow with an ambitious and creative business.
Working Hours
Hours are offered on a flexible, booking-dependent basis and are not guaranteed.
Some weeks may involve only one or two hours, while busy periods may offer significantly more work.
The amount of work available will also depend on the successful applicant’s availability, performance, reliability and the responsibilities they are able to take on.
Applicants must be available for some early mornings, weekdays, evenings and weekends.
How to Apply
Please send a brief introduction explaining why you would be suited to the role, along with your availability, location, whether you hold a full UK driving licence and any relevant experience.
We would particularly like to hear from applicants who are dependable, practical, efficient and genuinely enjoy hands-on work.
