About the role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Chargehand to join our Ground Engineering team.
Role purpose: To have day to day responsibilities of running a section of a site, liaising with and answerable to the Site Supervisor. Taking the lead site activities and to be the first point of contact for weekly site-based employees. Assisting Supervisor with the safe and efficient running of the contract on site, the management of equipment including resource and supporting to ensure that the company HSEQ system is implemented. Assisting Supervisor in promoting Excellence, Teamwork, Integrity and Respect. Chargehand must remain self-aware and promote best practice and company values at all times. Chargehand must ensure that they are familiar with the relevant company policies and procedures and that these are followed at all times.
What you'll be doing
The successful candidate will:
- Assist with HSE targets and ensure standards are maintained;
- Assist in ensuring the project has a relentless focus on Zero Harm, Defect free
delivery and sustainability principles;
- Promote the Golden Rules and site HSEQS initiatives;
- Ensure barriers for rig exclusion zone (double lock), making sure free of other plant equipment and ensuring access/egress gate is in the optimum location including relevant signage;
- Report any changes in ground condition to the site Supervisor immediately. Know
the expected strata prior to commencement of the works;
- Assist in monitoring inexperienced operatives;
- Notify the Site Supervisor of any matters that affect the progress of works
(including breakdowns & damages, etc.);
- Ensure daily maintenance checks are carried out, reports are correctly completed
on time and submitted to the site Supervisor;
- Be aware of project plans and schedules;
- Coordinate logistics including material handling, communications, transport,
plant and equipment;
- Co-ordinate with the site Supervisor and take an active role around the
mobilisation and de-mobilisation of the site;
- Learn and gain an understanding of safe systems of work, eliminating safety risks
through good logistics;
- Gain an understanding of the importance of logistics for programme success;
- Assist in production of as built records;
- Ensure all plant & equipment used on sites meets BB minimum plant;
specifications and pre-start checklist are completed;
- Coordinate and monitor works daily and record outcomes.
Who we're looking for
The successful candidate will have the following skills, knowledge and experience:
- Ability to communicate effectively with both the people they supervise and the
site management team;
- Ability to support improvement of safety and sustainability performance;
- Basic IT skills for the use of BIM and construction management tools;
- Development, Training, and coaching ability;
- Awareness of scheduling and programme management. Short-term planning for
the overall construction programme;
- Basic understanding of safety protocols and best practices;
- Understanding of quality assurance and quality control processes;
- Awareness of environmental sustainability practices and digital implementation;
- Knowledge of site method statements, procedures, risk assessments and site-
specific rules;
- Knowledge of piling techniques within discipline and procedures relating to Core discipline;
- Basic Mechanical knowledge of Ground Stabilisation and Piled Foundation
equipment;
- Awareness of regulatory agencies and ensuring compliance with regulations and
standards;
- Awareness of environmentally sustainable practices in construction projects;
- CSCS – Skilled Piling Operative;
- CPCS – Lift Supervisor – Slinger Signaller – Rig Attendant;
- CITB – SSSTS /SMSTS;
- First Aid;
- Fit For Role -Safety Critical Medical (SEQUAL Registered).
