- The post holder will provide and co-ordinate Technical Pharmacy Services to the whole of the Technical Services section of the Pharmacy.
- The post holder will manage the day-to-day activities of staff; allocate work to all staff including training of new staff.
- The post holder will work in close collaboration with other professionals e.g. Pharmacists, Consultants, Nurses, Doctors and other Pharmacy staff.
- The post holder will follow set Departmental Standard Operating Procedures and Policies as they operate at the place of work at all times while working on their own an is able to refer to the Chief Technician.
- The post holder will undertake within SOP’s checking of manufactured items.

Perform systems manager duties, ensuring the unit is within specification for manufacture, ensuring all staff are aware of any issues, this also includes capacity planning. Report any deviations to senior staff.
Take an active part in monthly team meetings to maintain practice; this will include offering suggestions to new practices and ways of working.
Take part in a GMP training rota providing a training session for staff within the aseptic unit.
Analytical and Planning
Assisting unit manager with the maintenance of documentation systems including commenting, advising and updating Standard Operating Procedures and other associated documents in line with current legislations.
Responsible for entering data into the department’s computer system, to produce labels and associated paperwork for manufacturing documents
Clinical Co-ordinate the supply of Chemotherapy to the chemotherapy day unit ensuring products are supplied in a timely manner
The compounding of all preparations dispensed within aseptic services including cytotoxics, monoclonal antibodies, radiopharmaceuticals etc.
Undertake the dispensing and labelling of clinical trials.
Policy and Service Development
Participate in the compounding of all aseptic preparations, including chemotherapy, radiopharmaceuticals, clinical trials and intravenous additives within the aseptic unit using isolator technology.
Maintain personal competencies in order to be able to check products manufactured within aseptic services.
Follow procedures at all times, ensuring that the procedure is current and valid and when required work with a senior member of staff to update procedures.
Maintain a valid broth and transfer validation, dispensing competencies and accuracy checking competencies.
Complete worksheets, transcribing detailed information from chemocare prescriptions or radiopharmaceutical orders onto worksheets, carrying out complex calculations. If required querying patient doses with Pharmacists to ensure accuracy in line with standard operating procedures
Undertake transcription, calculation and reconciliation checks on manufacturing documents prior to the use of the document by any grade of staff.
Maintain competencies in order to be able to carry out and complete final compound checking of products manufactured.
Use the EPISYS labelling system to produce dispensing labels for stock, patient doses and prescriptions.
Ensure that all log books and daily checks are completed accurately. Ensure that all readings and limits are within range and that the unit is maintained and fit for operational use, reporting any deviations to a senior member of staff.
Take part in the cleaning rota ensuring all equipment including the aseptic unit / radiopharmacy and isolators are cleaned and maintained, carrying out any system checks as required. This includes leak testing isolators and daily in use checks prior to use of the isolators.
Undertake and maintain training in order to be able to use relevant IT equipment and systems.
Maintain accurate records of manufactured or dispensed products, including Controlled Drug records where appropriate. Ensure that data is entered correctly and clearly for audit purposes.
Assist with the preparation of workload statistics, providing data on the output of the production unit.
Performing spot checks on raw materials, packaging components, consumables and completed products as required by Pharmacy Managers and in accordance with Trust Audit requirements.
Assisting with the maintenance of documentation systems including updating and making changes to standard operating procedures and other associated documents.
Action any quality alerts identifying the route cause using different forms of route cause analysis tools.
Ensure that all goods used within production services are approved items and complete where necessary the relevant forms for sending to Quality Assurance to have new items added to the approved drug list.
Notify the Lead technician or Technical services leads of any major faults within the unit of any equipment or fabric of the building. In absence of unit manager liaising with estates department and the Production director to report faults

Responsible for the purchase of medicines, equipment and resources for the manufacture and preparation of medicines including consumable and bulk stock, in conjunction with the other Specialist Technician Team Leaders Technical Services
Responsible for the safe and secure use of all specialist pharmaceutical equipment including Isolators, in conjunction with the other Specialist Technician Team Leaders Technical Services
Staff Management
In charge of the day-to-day management of all staff in Technical Services in conjunction with the other Specialist Technician Teams Leaders Technical Services
