Full job description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The role:

We are seeking an Occupational Therapist with a particular interest in working with young people (aged up to 18 years) who have mental health difficulties and neurodevelopmental issues. You will be based in North CAMHS, Woodside Health & Care Centre and will help to deliver an Occupational Therapy Service within a multi-disciplinary setting. Whilst experience of working in either mental health or paediatrics is desirable, it is not essential, as we recognise that a desire to work in this area will be the key to your success in this post. The post aims to extend an Occupational Therapy service that is already established and well respected within the team. You will be supported by a Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist in the role and be part of a wider CAMHS Occupational Therapy Team that is growing and expanding. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, assessing young people who are experiencing difficulties with their mental health and may have co-morbid neurodevelopmental issues. You will be required to offer individual and group work interventions, both with and alongside your Occupational Therapy and multi-disciplinary colleagues.

Key responsibilities:

Manage a defined caseload, delivering assessment, planning and implementation of occupational therapy interventions for children and young people
Work autonomously while contributing effectively within a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency team to ensure coordinated care
Use clinical reasoning to assess needs, develop treatment plans and evaluate outcomes in line with best practice
Communicate complex information clearly and compassionately to children, families and professionals
Maintain accurate clinical records and contribute to service data collection, audit and clinical governance activities
Support and supervise students and healthcare support workers as appropriate
Contribute to continuous service development through participation in training, audit and quality improvement initiatives

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

You will be provided with an induction that includes both Occupational Therapy specific and multi-disciplinary input and will be given access to regular CPD opportunities. We are committed to providing regular supervision, as well as developing reflective practice and evidence- based interventions. You may be seeking a sideways move to a new and different field and or a promotion. Regardless of your background, you will be able to demonstrate that you have the necessary interpersonal and communication skills to work with children, young people and their families.

Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy with current HCPC registration
Demonstrable knowledge of occupational therapy assessment tools and evidence-based interventions relevant to paediatric or mental health settings
Understanding of child development and the impact of mental health conditions on function and wellbeing
Ability to manage a clinical caseload and prioritise effectively in a busy service
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage children, young people and families
Commitment to continuous professional development and maintaining a CPD portfolio
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team
