Full job description

Job Summary:

The Production Planner is responsible for planning, scheduling and coordinating production activities to ensure manufacturing runs smoothly, efficiently and in line with customer demand. The role involves balancing workload, materials, production capacity and transport requirements to minimise delays and ensure orders are completed and delivered on time.

Key Responsibilities:

✓ Develop and maintain production schedules to meet customer orders, stock requirements and production capacity.

✓ Coordinate with purchasing, inventory and production teams to ensure materials are available when required.

✓ Analyse customer orders, sales forecasts and historical information to anticipate production needs.

✓ Plan transport and delivery schedules in line with the production plan, using the company fleet of 3 wagons and 2 vans.

✓ Coordinate daily and weekly delivery requirements with production, logistics and customer service teams.

✓ Monitor work-in-progress and adjust schedules to accommodate changes in demand, resource availability or urgent priorities.

✓ Communicate production plans, delivery priorities and schedule updates to relevant departments.

✓ Identify and resolve scheduling conflicts, capacity constraints and production bottlenecks.

✓ Prepare reports on production status, performance, delays and issues for management.

✓ Contribute to continuous improvement in planning, scheduling, transport coordination and manufacturing processes.

✓ Ensure planning activities are carried out in line with company policies, safety standards and operational requirements.

Skills & Competencies:

✓ Production planning and scheduling

✓ Transport planning and delivery coordination

✓ Strong Excel skills and data analysis capability

✓ Strong communication skills

✓ Analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills

✓ Ability to multitask and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment

✓ Stock, material and resource planning

✓ Cross-functional coordination with production, purchasing, logistics and customer service

✓ Reporting and performance monitoring

Experience:

✓ Experience in production planning, scheduling, supply chain, logistics or a similar manufacturing role.

✓ Experience coordinating production schedules against customer orders and capacity requirements.

✓ Experience with transport planning or delivery scheduling would be advantageous.

✓ Knowledge of door manufacturing, joinery, construction products or building materials would be beneficial.

✓ Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma would be advantageous.

✓ Good IT skills, particularly Excel, spreadsheets and planning systems.

Work Environment:

✓ Office-based at JD Doors Ltd, Road Four, Winsford Industrial Estate, Winsford, CW7 3RS.

✓ Regular liaison with production, shop floor, purchasing, logistics and customer service teams.

✓ Responsible for supporting transport planning across a fleet of 3 wagons and 2 vans.

✓ May require occasional communication with suppliers, customers and external logistics contacts.

Pay: £35,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
