Post: Communications & SMSC Lead Teacher

Location: GAIL, Wheatridge East, Abbeydale, Gloucester, GL4 5DF

FTE Salary Range: MPS 1 - UPS 3 + TLR2A; £32,916 - £51,047 + £3,527 + £2,787

Contract Type: Permanent, full time

Contract Hours: 32.5 Hours per week, Monday to Friday

Gloucester Academy for Inspirational Learning is looking for an ambitious and driven Head of Communication & SMSC to join our leadership team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an outstanding teacher ready to take the next step, or an experienced leader seeking a new challenge.

You will play a vital role in shaping the vision and direction of the faculty, driving high standards of teaching, learning and student achievement.

About the role

As Head of Communication & SMSC, you will:

Lead and inspire a team of teachers to deliver high-quality, inclusive education
Drive improvements in student attainment, progress and engagement
Develop and implement a dynamic, broad and balanced curriculum
Monitor teaching standards and support staff through coaching and professional development
Use data effectively to challenge underachievement and raise outcomes
Contribute to whole-school priorities, including SMSC, wellbeing and enrichment
Promote a strong culture of safeguarding, inclusion and high expectations

We are seeking someone who:

Holds Qualified Teacher Status and a relevant degree
Has a proven track record of excellent teaching and student outcomes
Demonstrates strong leadership and the ability to inspire and develop others
Is committed to raising aspirations and supporting every learner to succeed
Has excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
Embraces innovation and continuous professional development

About the School

Gloucestershire Academy for Inspirational Learning is a specialist school for 200 pupils aged 4-16 opening at the start of 2027, with pupils phasing into the school across three years.

The school’s designation is Moderate and Additional Learning Difficulties (MALD) and will cater for autistic pupils, those with speech and language differences, SEMH and those with learning differences in their cognitive profiles.

The school will be based in the Wheatridge area of Gloucestershire in a brand-new purpose-built building with outstanding facilities specifically tailored for SEND learners.
