Full job description

D.C. Merrett & Co Ltd is a long‑established, family‑run business specialising in abnormal load heavy haulage, waste‑water logistics and commercial engineering. With over 40 years’ experience, we pride ourselves on delivering a high‑quality, reliable service supported by a knowledgeable and dedicated team.

We are looking for a Workshop Administrator to join our friendly office and play a key role in supporting the smooth running of our operations. This position is ideal for someone with strong administrative experience who understands how a busy commercial environment works and enjoys taking ownership of their responsibilities.

What you’ll be doing

As the central point of coordination for our workshop, you will ensure that all administrative processes are accurate, efficient and well organised. Your responsibilities will include:

Managing communication with customers, suppliers and engineers via telephone, email and in person
Coordinating scheduled vehicle maintenance, inspections and MOTs with the Workshop Manager
Maintaining accurate service records, job sheets and compliance documentation
Raising purchase orders, recording goods‑in and processing supplier invoices
Monitoring stock levels and supporting parts ordering
Assisting with invoicing, basic accounts tasks and general business administration
Ensuring all workshop and office records are kept up to date and compliant
Supporting wider operational tasks as required

What we’re looking for

We’re seeking someone who brings experience, confidence and a proactive approach to their work. You will be:

Experienced in administration, ideally within a workshop, engineering, transport or service‑based environment
Comfortable handling business documentation, scheduling and customer communication
Highly organised, reliable and able to manage multiple tasks with accuracy
Competent using Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel (Sage50 experience is an advantage)
A strong communicator who can build positive working relationships
Someone who takes initiative, solves problems and keeps things running smoothly
