Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Shift Manager to oversee our food production operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all processes are executed efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of food safety and quality.
The Shift Manager is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations during their assigned shift in a busy food packaging factory. This role ensures that production targets are achieved efficiently while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and compliance with UK food industry regulations. The Shift Manager will lead a team, foster a positive working environment, and strive for continuous improvement in all aspects of the operation.
Working Hours: Full time: Monday - Friday weekly rotating shifts currently 0500-1400/1330-2230
Key Responsibilities:
· Operational Management: Ensure smooth running of all production lines during the shift to meet daily output targets. Monitor production processes, resolve operational issues, and minimise downtime. Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Quality Control, Maintenance) to maintain workflow continuity.
· Team Leadership: Supervise, motivate, and manage a team of operatives and supervisors on shift. Conduct pre-shift briefings to communicate goals, assignments, and updates. Monitor staff performance, providing coaching, feedback, and support as needed.
· Compliance and Standards: Ensure adherence to UK food safety regulations, health and safety standards, and internal quality protocols. Conduct routine inspections to verify hygiene, safety, and compliance. Address any breaches in company policies promptly.
· Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and improve efficiency. Work with management on initiatives to optimise the factory’s overall performance.
· Reporting and Documentation: Maintain accurate records of production data, attendance, and incident reports. Provide end-of-shift summaries and escalate issues as required.
Key Requirements:Qualifications:
· A-Level education or equivalent.
· Relevant management training or food safety certifications are advantageous.
Experience:
· Proven experience in a supervisory or management role within a manufacturing or food packaging environment.
· Strong understanding of UK food safety and health and safety regulations.
Skills and Competencies:
· Excellent leadership and team management skills.
· Ability to remain calm under pressure and make sound decisions.
· Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
· Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
· Proficiency in using production and reporting software.
