Accounting Manager

Occasional UK project travel.

Overview

SUMITOMO ELECTRIC U.K. POWER CABLES LTD. is seeking an accounting manager to oversee the company’s financial and closing-of-books operations.
The accounting manager will be responsible for leading the accounting team, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with both UK GAAP/IFRS, and involves managing day-to-day accounting operations, tax compliance, and providing financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
The roll will be coordinating and managing our company’s regulatory reporting process, and be responsible for budget planning and supporting the executive management team in making the best possible business decisions for our business.

Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Reporting

Oversee the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing process to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
Review monthly financial and management reporting
Monitor the day-to-day financial operations within the company, such as invoicing, payment, other transactions
Main books and records

Statutory Compliance

Manage local statutory accounting, tax filings (Corporate Income Tax, Consumption Tax)
Adhere to financial regulations and legislation

Team Leadership

Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting staff

Audit Management

Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors and tax advisors.
Monitor internal financial control

Process Improvement

Streamline accounting processes, enhance internal controls, and implement system improvements
Maintain a control environment (monthly balance sheet reconciliations, P&L reviews)
Develop risk minimising strategies
Establish and maintain financial policies and procedures for the company

Collaboration

Coordinate with regional/global FP&A, Treasury, and Legal teams regarding transfer pricing, intercompany transactions, and reporting.
Work with other departments within the company to prepare budgets and carry out other related tasks
Develop long-term business plans based on financial reports
Provide advice on future business decisions

Key Interfaces

5+ years experience in a similar role
You will be a CA/CPA qualified accountant
Experience in planning and management reporting
Sound technical and practical knowledge of accounting and regulatory reporting requirements
Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Experience

Qualified Accountant
Professional Accounting qualification (CPA or CA)
MSDD365 FO experience
Work experience in a Japanese company

About our project in Port of Nigg, Highland

Sumitomo Electric is one of the leading global manufacturers of state-of-the-art high-end electricity transmission
cables, up to and including 525kV HVDC(High Voltage Direct Current) cable.
The new factory at Nigg, with investment value announced by the Scottish Government of £350M, will make a
significant contribution towards realisation of the UK Net Zero Target by contributing to critical electricity transmission
infrastructure to connect and deliver renewable energy, including offshore wind, to UK consumers and beyond.
In addition, the factory will create more than 150 highly skilled jobs in the Scottish Highlands, with maximum
utilisation of the local supply chain for production of cables and construction of transmission cable systems.

In a significant boost for the UK green energy supply chain, Sumitomo Electric has commenced construction
of its state-of-the-art subsea transmission cable factory in the Scottish Highlands.
The factory will supply critical elements for the reinforcement of the UK electricity transmission grid and for
connecting renewable energy production facilities to the grid.
