The Public Health Service at Gateshead Council works to improve population health and reduce inequalities by putting prevention, evidence and partnership at the heart of decisionmaking. We lead delivery of the Health and Wellbeing Strategy and Health in All Policies approach, working across the Council, NHS and wider system to address the wider determinants of health. Using strong public health intelligence and insight, we support action across the life course, from children and young people to adult wellbeing, prevention and health protection, ensuring services are targeted where they will have the greatest impact.

As Senior Public Health Intelligence Analyst, you will play a pivotal leadership role at the heart of Gateshead Council’s ambition to improve health and wellbeing and reduce inequalities. Leading the Public Health Intelligence Team, you will shape and deliver robust, highquality intelligence that informs public health action, supports statutory responsibilities such as the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment, and underpins evidencebased decisionmaking across the Council and the wider health and care system. Using advanced analytical expertise, strong partnerships and a deep understanding of Gateshead’s communities, you will turn complex data into insight that drives meaningful, realworld impact for local people.

What you'll get to do:

Lead the development of highquality public health intelligence that informs action, improves outcomes and supports Public Health and Wellbeing priorities.
Build strong, effective working relationships across the Gateshead health and care system and partner organisations, acting as a trusted analytical lead.
Analyse complex data and evidence to identify trends, patterns and insights that shape health, care and public health decisionmaking.
Lead and support major intelligence programmes and statutory work, including the JSNA, Health Needs Assessments, Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment and health economic analysis.
Translate data at population, place and individual level into clear, meaningful insight, presented confidently to a wide range of audiences.
Use expert statistical and research methods to assure quality, robustness and impact, championing evidencebased public health practice.
Support policy development, commissioning and service improvement by embedding intelligence across planning, delivery and evaluation.
Develop capability across the system by providing advice, training and leadership on the use of intelligence, including health equity audits, health impact assessments and needs assessment.

What you'll bring:

A relevant degree or postgraduate qualification, or equivalent demonstrable experience in a senior public health intelligence or analytical role.
Strong understanding of the analytics, data and intelligence needs of local government, Public Health and the wider health and care system, including how these systems interact.
Indepth knowledge health inequalities, social determinants of health and epidemiology, and their application within a local authority public health setting.
Experience applying Population Health Management (PHM) approaches to improve population outcomes and reduce inequalities.
Robust expertise in health and demographic data sources, including the ability to select, apply and interpret datasets appropriately for public health decisionmaking.
Advanced knowledge of statistical methods for analysis, assurance and interpretation of data, with practical experience using tools such as SQL, SPSS, R and/or STATA.
Strong awareness of local communities and populations, alongside a sound understanding of data protection, GDPR and information governance requirements.
