We are seeking a USV Maritime Operations Trainer to support the safe, compliant, and effective operation of our Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV) fleet, with a strong focus on training delivery, operator competency, and standardised operational practices.
This role blends hands-on maritime operations expertise with instructional delivery and training development, ensuring all USV operators are trained to a high standard, fully competent, and mission-ready. You will play a key role in embedding a strong safety culture, maintaining regulatory compliance, and supporting the continuous evolution of training and operational capability.
What you will be doing…
No two days are the same, but you will typically be:
- Delivering training programmes for USV operators, including onboarding, vessel systems, mission execution, and emergency procedures.
- Supporting the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of training materials, SOPs, lesson plans, and practical assessments.
- Conducting supervised and unsupervised training sessions on vessel operation, remote control systems, navigation procedures, and payload handling.
- Assisting in the planning and execution of operational missions, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and regulatory frameworks.
- Maintaining an up‑to‑date understanding of the MCA Workboat Code (including Annex 2), SOLAS requirements, and other relevant regulatory standards.
- Contributing to operational readiness by supporting vessel checks, risk assessments, passage planning, and system testing during training evolutions.
- Providing technical guidance to new and developing operators, fostering a culture of safety, professionalism, and operational excellence.
- Collaborating closely with engineering, software, and technical teams to support knowledge transfer and operator competency around new technologies and payload systems.
- Assisting in maintaining training records, assessment logs, competency matrices, and certification tracking for audits and internal reporting.
- Commercially endorsed maritime qualification to operate vessels under the MCA Workboat Code.
- Strong understanding of maritime operations, navigation principles, and vessel safety.
- Experience with remote or autonomous vessel systems (or demonstrable ability to learn quickly).
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to deliver structured training and communicate technical concepts clearly.
- Strong problem‑solving abilities and situational awareness.
- Commitment to maintaining high safety and quality standards.
