Post Buddy Up Support Worker -Children, youth and/or Adult services

Purpose of the post
To support a member of IM2C with complex ASN within the community to develop life skills and build confidence in their daily activities. The post-holder will support the service user with a range of activities including:
- Using public transport
- Managing finances
- Leisure activities (service user currently enjoys visiting the cinema and going out for dinner but is keen to build confidence to try new things)
- Helping to develop life skills
- Support in education
Providing transport forms part of the role so a full driving licence and business insurance is essential.
Duties:
- Coordinate and plan activities with the service user and and their family
- Provide transport for service user (driving license and access to own car is essential)
- Support and encourage the development of life and social skills (e.g. use of public transport, participating in social activities).
- Child protection and Health & Safety policies and other relevant policies and complete any appropriate reports e.g. accident / incident forms
- Encourage good behavior and deal with any challenging behavior in accordance with the projects policies and procedures.
- Ensure non-discriminatory practices at all times in line with the Equal Opportunities policy
- Contribute to joint working and partnership working ensuring positive relationships with all concerned
- Act in line with the requests and expectations of families and care-givers to ensure consistency in approach for our members
Administration/Procedures:
- Ensure familiarity and adherence to the organisation’s procedures/policies
- Noting and acting with regard to special health or dietary needs of members
- Attendance at staff meetings and training sessions as required
- Keeping a log of, and reporting any issues on sessions to your line manager
- Other duties associated with Buddy-up service as required
- If appropriate for your organisation maintain a register, paperwork and reports
Buddy Up Support Worker - Person Specification
Essentials Required by Service User
- Knowledge and understanding various ASN's
- Supportive of LGBTQ+ community
- First-hand knowledge of the challenges facing people with neurological disorders and/or anxiety within school and social environments
- Willingness to learn about different ASN's including autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and ADHD
- Experience in supporting/befriending people
- Effective communicator
- Patience
Essentials Required by IM2C
- Full driving license
- Access to own car
- Business insurance
- Weekend availability
- Awareness of Child/Adult Protection guidelines, evaluation techniques and relevant legislation.
- Awareness of the needs of young adults and people with varied additional support needs and disabilities.
- Be able to work within the ethos of the organisation.
- Flexible approach to working hours
- Be patient, tolerant and able to work in a team.
- Be organised and efficient as well as flexible in your approach
- Willingness to learn, research and adapt
