Systems engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process. All activities that consider both the business and the technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the users needs. The discipline that executes a robust process of design, creation, and optimization of systems, consisting of identification and quantification of system requirements, creation of alternate system design concepts, performance of design trade studies, selection and implementation of the best designs and verification that the design is properly integrated and executed. Process that proceeds from concept to production to operation.
Impacts departmental operations and responsible for planning/execution. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.
Responsible for the technical delivery of service, upgrade and retrofit engineering projects across industrial, marine, offshore and naval sectors. Activities span the full project lifecycle from initial technical support and system assessment through detailed engineering, testing, commissioning and customer handover.
Provides engineering expertise for the modernisation, replacement and integration of legacy and current drive, control and automation systems. Supports customers in identifying upgrade solutions for obsolete equipment and delivers technically robust, cost-effective engineering outcomes.
Manages engineering requirements, specifications and technical deliverables associated with assigned projects and work packages. Responsible for ensuring solutions meet customer requirements, technical standards, quality expectations and project schedules.
Executes engineering activities including system design, configuration, testing, fault-finding, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning and post-installation support. Supports the integration of hardware, software and control systems across a diverse range of customer applications.
Works closely with application engineers, project managers, service teams, customers and suppliers to ensure successful project execution. Acts as the technical focal point for assigned activities and contributes to effective project delivery through sound engineering judgement and problem solving.
Supports the management of technical risk, equipment obsolescence and upgrade strategies. Contributes to continuous improvement activities through the sharing of technical knowledge, lessons learned and best practices.
Develops in-depth knowledge of GE Vernova legacy and current technologies, as well as third-party control, automation and drive systems. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute engineering activities safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
Demonstrates a clear understanding of key business drivers within the Service organisation and how engineering activities contribute to customer satisfaction, operational performance and business growth.
Uses technical judgement and practical engineering experience to solve problems and develop solutions within established processes and procedures. May propose alternative approaches and recommendations where appropriate while working with guidance from senior colleagues and management.
Works independently on assigned projects and engineering tasks while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams. Provides informal coaching and technical guidance to less experienced engineers where required.
