We are now recruiting self contractor Woodland Tutors/Forest School Leaders to deliver Woodland Learning sessions as Alternative Provision to SEND/SEMH learners who are struggling to access mainstream education. We welcome applications from those with a SEND/SEMH education background but also those with more bushcraft focused skills looking to diversify their work.
You will join a friendly, supportive team of tutors and be contracted to deliver programmes of learning on our behalf. Sessions are usually a half day, sometimes a full day, sometimes two half day sessions on the same day so the schedule is flexible to suit your availability.
We have a range of learners all with varied programmes, some Forest School, some Outdoor Learning so the work is never dull. We offer free Professional Development focused on SEND/SEMH and bushcraft to help our tutors extend their skillset.
Job responsibilities:
● Deliver high quality teaching to the best of your ability.
● Use observation and student review to monitor progress.
● Complete programme evaluation using feedback system.
● Attend regular in-house PD sessions.
● Ensure all safeguarding obligations are met.
● Adhere to Woodventurers’ policies and procedures.
● Show commitment to safe working practice and use of risk assessments to keep themselves and others safe
Please note: As a contractor for Woodventurers, you will be expected to invoice for your services at the agreed rate and will be responsible for paying your own tax and NI on a self-employed basis.
Job specifications
Required:
- Have experience working with groups of learners in an outdoor environment and/or significant experience working with learners with SEN and a passion for outdoor learning.
- Hold a current enhanced DBS certificate.
- Be committed to the safety and welfare of those in their care and uphold all safeguarding responsibilities, including attending annual updates, maintaining competency and agreement to work within the latest edition of KCSIE, Prevent and staff codes of conduct/ policies
- Have a clear understanding and experience of managing/ supporting challenging behaviour in a positive manner
- Have the ability to support and inspire children and encourage them to engage with learning opportunities.
- Understand the different ways in which children learn and be able to adapt teaching methods to meet the individual needs of each learner.
- Be able to build and sustain effective working relationships with learners, colleagues and families (as appropriate).
- Demonstrate effective time management and organisational skills.
- Demonstrate a positive commitment to own personal development
- Demonstrate effective administration and communication skills
Desirable:
- Experience working with SEND
- Positive Handling qualifications
- First Aid certificate and/ or outdoor first aid
- Ability to positively influence the practice of others.
- Evidence of ongoing personal professional development
- Forest School or Outdoor Learning qualification.

Pay: £18.00-£23.00 per hour
