Job Summary

We are seeking a proud and capable PM Shift Manager to join our management team. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the smooth functioning of HGV drivers routes and warehouse process during the afternoon and evening hours, ensuring safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement. Your leadership will drive team performance, optimise processes, and uphold our commitment to exceptional service and sustaining our positive in depot culture.

Key Objectives

- Have complete oversight of the operation, ensuring issues are identified early and dealt with before they impact service.

- Lead, support and develop the drivers and warehouse team, ensuring they understand what is expected of them, communicate effectively and consistently work to the standards required by the business.

- Support employee performance through regular coaching, recognition, constructive feedback and timely management of attendance, conduct and performance issues.

- Communicate proactively with the Operations Manager, and Customer Services team, drivers and the wider business, ensuring information is shared early and accurately.

- Plan, organise and coordinate the daily operation to achieve the highest possible levels of service, productivity and operational efficiency whilst making the best possible use of available resources.

- Maintain high standards of housekeeping, vehicle presentation, operational compliance and health and safety throughout your shift, leading by example at all times.

- Respond decisively to operational issues including vehicle breakdowns, accidents, staffing shortages, service failures and customer issues, ensuring problems are resolved quickly whilst minimising disruption to the operation.

- Continually look for opportunities to improve the operation by reducing waste, improving productivity, strengthening team performance and preventing avoidable problems from recurring.

- Lead by example. Your primary responsibility is to lead and manage the operation. However, there will be occasions where unforeseen operational demands require additional support. Once all reasonable operational and management solutions have been exhausted, be prepared to roll your sleeves up and personally support the operation to protect service, support the team and ensure our customers continue to receive the service they expect.

Shift Specific Responsibilities

- Allocate and manage customer deliveries and collections efficiently, ensuring customer requirements are met whilst minimising operational cost. Have involvement in operational routing to strengthen the overall daily strategy.

- Lead the warehouse team and collection drivers to unload, re-load and process, accurately and efficiently.

- Maximise trailer utilisation and ensure all outbound freight is loaded safely, securely and in accordance with network requirements before trunk departure.

- Prepare the following day's operational resource plan, ensuring drivers, vehicles and routes are correctly allocated and communicated.

- Produce and distribute a comprehensive PM operational report, ensuring all relevant operational issues are clearly communicated to the wider management team and closing off issues

- Support drivers throughout the working day, responding promptly to operational issues, HGV Driver hour and tachograph rules, vehicle breakdowns and accidents.

- Communicate proactively with Customer Services, other Managers and the end of line customers ensuring information is shared early to support the following day's operation.

- Maintain high standards of housekeeping, health and safety, vehicle presentation and operational compliance throughout the shift.

- Ensure the depot is left secure, organised and fully prepared for the following morning's operation.

- Close off all jobs and issues and prepare vehicles in the depot for the morning operation leaving it in the best possible position to succeed.
