Lead Appointed Person – Lifting Operations, Machinery Movement & Technical Services
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced and driven Lead Appointed Person specialising in Lifting Operations, Machinery Movement, and Rigging & Fleeting to oversee and coordinate complex lifting and engineering support activities across our business.
This is a senior operational leadership role requiring a proactive individual who can lead from the front, take ownership of critical operations, and act as the key link between the Director and the management team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in driving operational performance, ensuring tasks are executed efficiently, safely, and to the highest professional standards.
The role requires extensive technical knowledge in lifting operations, heavy machinery movement, rigging practices, fleeting loads, and complex lift & shift projects. The ideal candidate will also possess strong health & safety knowledge and relevant qualifications, with the ability to continuously improve systems, processes, and standards across the business.
Reporting directly to the Director / Owner, this individual will gradually take responsibility for many operational and technical functions currently overseen by the Director, ensuring projects, teams, and business objectives are delivered effectively and without delay.
Our business has recently made significant investments into training, compliance, testing capabilities, software systems, and operational processes. We are proud to employ CFA-qualified anchor testers and installers, alongside personnel holding numerous LEEA qualifications relating to the testing, examination, and inspection of lifting equipment, lifting accessories, and structural systems.

Key Responsibilities
- Plan, manage, and coordinate all lifting operations, machinery movements, rigging activities, and fleeting operations across the business.
- Review and approve lifting plans, RAMS, methodologies, and engineering considerations to ensure compliance and operational suitability.
- Lead and support complex machinery movement and heavy equipment relocation projects, including lift & shift scenarios.
- Oversee rigging operations involving specialist lifting configurations, structural supports, and non-standard lifting solutions.
- Ensure all lifting activities comply with LOLER, PUWER, BS7121, and all relevant health & safety legislation and industry best practices.
- Act as the operational link between the Director and management teams, ensuring instructions, priorities, and business objectives are delivered efficiently.
- Take ownership of operational problems, solving and ensuring actions are completed effectively and professionally.
- Lead risk assessments and implement robust control measures for lifting and machinery movement activities.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, site management, engineers, and internal teams to coordinate works safely and efficiently.
- Ensure all lifting equipment, accessories, anchors, and structural systems are inspected, tested, maintained, and certified in line with statutory requirements.
- Support and oversee anchor testing and installation activities carried out by CFA-qualified personnel.
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and technical guidance to Appointed Persons, Supervisors, Riggers, Testers, and operational teams.
- Conduct safety briefings, toolbox talks, operational reviews, and incident investigations where required.
- Maintain accurate operational records, certifications, inspection reports, and compliance documentation.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives, including software implementation, process development, operational efficiency, and quality standards.
- Promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, professionalism, and operational excellence throughout the business.
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience as a Senior or Lead Appointed Person within lifting operations.
- Extensive knowledge of lifting operations, rigging, machinery movement, fleeting loads, and heavy equipment relocation.
- Strong understanding of LOLER, PUWER, BS7121, and associated lifting legislation and standards.
- Experience managing complex lift plans and high-risk operational activities.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Strong organisational and communication abilities with the confidence to manage multiple stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently, make decisions under pressure, and drive operational delivery.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and compliance.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- CPCS Appointed Person qualification or equivalent.
- Health & Safety qualifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent.
- LEEA qualifications relating to lifting equipment inspection and examination.
- Experience within specialist lifting, engineering, construction, industrial services, or machinery installation sectors.
- Experience implementing operational systems, software, and process improvements.
- Knowledge of anchor testing, structural fixings, and load testing operations.
- Experience leading multi-disciplinary operational teams.

Pay: £75,000.00-£100,000.00 per year
