Job summary:
To support lead personnel in facilitating work skills training sessions for adults and young people with learning disabilities within the Level Best Gardening and Seasonal enterprises. This will involve facilitating Trainees to access outdoor activities at the Level Best Allotment and Colchester Castle Park. Outdoor activities take place all year, in all weathers. The job will also involve facilitating Trainees to produce and sell a variety of seasonal goods including Jams, Marmalades, Cordials and cakes.
To support Trainees to set and achieve goals through a person centred review process and to assess and evidence a Trainee’s progression throughout their placement through a keyworker-based system.
The post will involve occasional evening and weekend work.
Main duties and responsibilities
Trainees:
- To support lead personnel in facilitating and planning programmes of activities for Trainees within Level Best Hub and outdoor locations (allotment, castle park).
- Liaise with family/carers of Trainees as required.
- To contribute and carry out individual Trainee reviews and assessments within a keyworker-based system. Training will be provided.
- To ‘meet and greet’ and supervise Trainees both during and out of session times, ensuring their safety and that of others, in-line with risk assessments and Dacon Trust Policy.
- To escort trainees as and when necessary and in-line with support guidelines and risk assessments.
Safeguarding:
- To be aware of the vulnerability of the trainees and be alert to potential abuse. To use local and national policies and procedures for recognizing, recording, reporting and participating in safeguarding protocols.
Gardening, outdoor and Seasonal activities:
· To facilitate Trainees in a variety of outdoor activities based at the Level Best Allotment, Castle Park and other locations as required. Activities include physical plot upkeep- planting, tree care and crop layout designs. Foraging and harvesting walks. Facilitating trainees to learn about Plant, flower and tree Identification.
· Facilitate Trainees in a variety of food preparation tasks including jam, chutney, cordials, pickles and cakes.
· Follow food hygiene practices and facilitate Trainees to understand and implement these.
· Facilitate Trainees to design labels for produce using design software such as Canva or Procreate.
Organisational:
- To understand and implement all Policies and procedures, both statutory and those established by the Dacon Trust Ltd.
- To attend staff meetings and participate in 1:1 supervision meetings with line manager
- To attend relevant training as required
- To ensure health and safety measures are observed at all times
- Keep records and paperwork up to date and accurate
