We are now looking for a motivated Accountant to join our team. This is an excellent role for someone looking to build a long-term career in accountancy, with full training provided and funded study support towards the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) or Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA) qualification.
Role Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of accounts preparation and client service, working with a varied portfolio of clients.
Key responsibilities will include:
Accounts Preparation
- Preparation of year-end accounts for limited companies, sole traders and partnerships.
- Preparation of management accounts where required.
- Processing and reviewing bookkeeping records.
- Reviewing client accounting records and identifying queries.
- Preparing working papers and supporting schedules.
- Assisting with the completion of statutory accounts in accordance with relevant accounting standards.
Taxation
- Preparation of corporation tax computations and returns.
- Assisting with the preparation of self-assessment tax returns.
- Liaising with senior staff regarding tax planning opportunities and technical matters.
- Assisting with HMRC correspondence and queries.
Bookkeeping and VAT
- Assisting clients with bookkeeping matters.
- Preparation and review of VAT returns.
- Supporting clients using cloud accounting software.
Client Liaison
- Communicating directly with clients to obtain information and resolve queries.
- Building and maintaining strong client relationships.
- Providing practical support to business owners on day-to-day accounting matters.
- Assisting with onboarding new clients and maintaining client records.
Software
The role will involve working with:
- Xero
- Sage
- TaxCalc
- Microsoft Office
Previous experience of TaxCalc would be advantageous but is not essential as full training will be provided.
General Practice Duties
- Assisting senior members of the team with a variety of assignments.
- Supporting trainees and junior staff where appropriate.
- Maintaining accurate records and meeting client deadlines.
- Ensuring compliance with firm procedures and professional standards.
- Participating in continuing professional development and technical training.
Candidate Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
- Approximately 2–4 years' experience within an accountancy practice.
- Experience preparing accounts for limited companies, sole traders and partnerships.
- AAT qualified, part-qualified, or studying towards ACCA.
- Good bookkeeping knowledge.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- A proactive and professional approach to client service.
- Experience of Xero and Sage would be beneficial.
