About us

Warrington Borough Council Adult Social Care are working in partnership across the town to shape a health and social care system to be proud of, one that’s fit for the future and built to last.

We require the very best social work professionals on board with a strengths-based approach to the delivery of high-quality care and support. Our social workers make a huge difference day in, day out, and our organisation is playing a leading role in efforts to deliver the truly joined up health and social care services the people of Warrington need and deserve.

Team members have the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge around a wide range of issues including Care Act Assessments, Court of Protection, Safeguarding enquiries, Continuing Health Care, Risk Assessments, Mental Capacity Assessments and Best Interest Decisions. You will work within the legislation of the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act and the Mental Health Act in order to deliver personalised assessment, support planning and reviews following a strengths-based approach. This will include working with partner agencies and ensuring holistic outcomes. As a valued member of the team you will be fully supported with your individual case management caseload.

The role

We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic people who can commit to work and train as apprentice social workers, starting in September 2026. These roles will be full-time (37 hours a week) with opportunities in our assessment and care management teams. You will undertake the taught element of your degree apprenticeship with the University of Lancashire, with a combination of online and in-person learning.

What's needed?

You will already have significant experience in social care, or a related field. You will be skilled in building relationships with adults of all ages who have care and support needs, and their carers.
You will have excellent communication skills and will be able to work in a way that supports people to identify what is working for them and to use their strengths and assets. You will have the aptitude to develop skills in assessing needs and risks, as well as planning to achieve the person’s agreed outcomes. You will be able to work flexibly and effectively with a range of statutory and community organisations. You will also have good time management and organisational skills.
