Role Overview
We are looking for a skilled Maintenance Engineer with an electrical bias to join our manufacturing engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, fault-finding and improving production machinery, electrical systems and site equipment to ensure safe, efficient and reliable operation.
This role would suit a practical, hands-on engineer with strong electrical fault-finding skills, good mechanical understanding and experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing or production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance on production machinery, plant and site equipment.
- Respond quickly to machine breakdowns to minimise production downtime.
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults on motors, drives, control panels, sensors, relays, contactors and associated control systems.
- Carry out mechanical fault-finding and basic repairs where required, including bearings, belts, chains, gearboxes, pneumatics and hydraulics.
- Work safely on three-phase electrical systems and industrial control equipment.
- Support continuous improvement projects to improve machine reliability, efficiency and safety.
- Assist with installation, commissioning and modification of machinery and equipment.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, including work completed, parts used and follow-up actions required.
- Work closely with production operators, supervisors and management to resolve recurring issues.
- Ensure all work is carried out in line with company health and safety procedures.
- Support machine improvement projects, energy-saving initiatives and process efficiency improvements.
- Keep engineering areas, tools and spares organised and safe.
- Participate in out-of-hours support, overtime or call-out arrangements where required.
Required Skills and Experience
- Strong electrical maintenance and fault-finding experience in a manufacturing, production, FMCG, packaging, plastics, engineering or similar environment.
- Confident working with three-phase motors, control panels, inverters, drives, sensors, safety circuits and industrial wiring.
- Ability to read and understand electrical drawings and wiring diagrams.
- Good mechanical maintenance skills, including fault-finding on moving parts, pneumatic systems and general production machinery.
- Experience with planned preventative maintenance systems.
- Ability to work under pressure and respond quickly to production breakdowns.
- Good problem-solving skills with a practical, hands-on approach.
- Good communication skills and ability to work with production teams.
- Understanding of safe systems of work, lock-off procedures and risk assessments.
- Basic IT skills for recording maintenance work and updating maintenance systems.
Desirable Skills
- PLC fault-finding experience, for example Siemens, Mitsubishi, Allen-Bradley, Omron or similar.
- Experience with variable speed drives, servo drives, temperature controllers and automation equipment.
- Experience in plastics manufacturing, extrusion, conversion, packaging, printing, food production or FMCG.
- Knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics and compressed-air systems.
- Welding, fabrication or machining skills would be advantageous.
- Experience using a CMMS or maintenance management system.
- Understanding of PUWER, LOLER, permit-to-work systems and machine safety standards.
- Experience supporting continuous improvement, lean manufacturing or root-cause analysis.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Recognised electrical or engineering apprenticeship, or equivalent experience.
- Level 3 qualification in Electrical Engineering, Maintenance Engineering, Mechatronics, or a similar engineering discipline.
- Good practical knowledge of industrial electrical maintenance.
Desirable:
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
- HNC / HND in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or similar.
- PLC, automation, controls or fault-finding training.
- IPAF, forklift, welding, hydraulics or pneumatics training.
- IOSH Working Safely or similar health and safety training.

Working Hours
Working hours to be confirmed depending on the shift pattern. This may be a days-based role or a rotating shift pattern. Overtime may be available depending on business requirements.

Pay: £35,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
