Our Digital Project Managers use a range of skills and methodologies, managing multi-functional delivery teams to deliver change, maintain our core applications and deliver new services that support the lives of millions of people.

The successful candidate will be delivering projects as part of the Desktop Product group consisting of several close working teams such as Citrix & Ivanti, Windows 10, Application packaging, Cloud First and SCCM. DWP use up to date technologies and you will be involved with implementing and improving services across the organisation and is a hugely rewarding role.

Job description

A Lead Digital Project Manager will manage end-to-end delivery of multiple programmes or projects in parallel that are high risk, or which have significant business impact, that will need to be delivered on time, under strict scope and cost constraints.

Responsibilities include ensuring programmes or projects are commercially viable and deliver value, considering impacts and opportunities for existing services.

This role involves managing risks, issues, and dependencies (external and internal) for complex programmes and coaching other members of the Digital Project Management community to help them manage risks and issues effectively.

Leading by example, the postholder will manage team dynamics, demonstrating the right behaviours, dealing with conflict and helping establish a positive team culture.

Senior stakeholder relationships must be managed at the highest level, helping resolve strategic risks, issues and conflicts.

A key part of the role is to help set priorities for the programme and support other members of the Digital Project Manager community in navigating complex stakeholder environments.

At a strategic level, supplier relationships are managed to help resolve complex or high-risk commercial issues and ensure value for money for the department.

The role also includes line managing, mentoring, coaching and supporting senior digital project managers, while helping identify development and growth opportunities for them and the wider Delivery community.

Person specification

When giving details in your employment history and personal statement you should highlight your experience in line with essential criteria below:

Experience in a digital project delivery role, managing high impact, high risk projects, across the entire project lifecycle or managing a portfolio of projects within a programme over the entire programme lifecycle.
Demonstrable history of making and justifying significant decisions characterised by high levels of risk, impact, and complexity. Experience of managing complex stakeholder environments and relationships, resolving strategic risks, issues, and conflicts.
Strong experience of delivering projects whilst utilising external and internal suppliers. Maintaining strict adherence to contractual agreements, ensuring maximum value for money.
Experience of leading effective collaboration across organisational boundaries and differing perspectives. Setting the priorities for the programme and supporting other members of the Digital Project Manager community.
Evidence of managing team dynamics, leading by example, promoting a positive team culture, and identifying development and growth opportunities for team members.

Hybrid Working

This role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work.

Salary Information

New entrants to the Civil Service will join on band minimum.

Existing Civil Servants who secure a new role on lateral transfer will maintain their current substantive salary.

Existing Civil Servants who gain promotion will move to the bottom of the grade pay scale or receive a 10% increase applied to their current substantive salary, whichever is greater.

Any temporary allowances that you are currently in receipt of will not form part of the calculation to determine your pay. Any allowances that are in payment will cease when you move into your new role.

Selection process details

Stage 1: Application

Your application will consist of three parts:

1. A Personal Details application form.

3. Personal statement - up to 1000 words. This statement should be used to provide examples of how you meet the essential criteria listed in the Person specification.

The sift panel will use the information in your employment history and personal statement to assess your experience, skills and knowledge against the essential criteria.
