Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Senior Engineer plays a key role in the day-to-day management of the technical function, ensuring it effectively supports business objectives and long-term growth plans. This role is responsible for coordinating all design information between external consultants and internal teams, ensuring approvals are secured on time and high-quality, accurate information is issued across the business.
You will be involved throughout the full project lifecycle, from site feasibility through to construction, completion, and handover. The role includes preparing reports, supporting planning submissions, managing technical approvals, and providing live site support. You will also work cross-functionally, building strong relationships to ensure successful project delivery aligned to targets and timelines.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the engineering design process to meet business objectives
- Supporting feasibility studies and preparing constraints and opportunities plans
- Coordinating planning submissions and securing technical and regulatory approvals
- Managing design information, drawings, and site-related engineering queries
- Supporting procurement of foundations, remediation, and service designs
- Assisting with road and sewer adoptions, and statutory processes (e.g. S38, S278, S104)
- Monitoring budgets, managing payments, and producing accurate business reports
- Ensuring all engineering outputs meet high quality, commercial, and compliance standards
The role also includes leadership responsibilities, including building and developing a high-performing team, supporting talent development, and managing performance and engagement.
Essential:
- HNC /HND / Degree in Engineering
- Experience working within a technical new build environment (minimum 2 years)
- Strong engineering knowledge, including foundations, roads, sewers, and geo-environmental disciplines
- Proven experience delivering S38, S278, and S104 designs and approvals
- Good understanding of planning and building control processes
- Ability to plan, organise, and prioritise workload effectively
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
- High level of interpersonal skills with a professional, proactive approach
- Self-motivated, resilient, tenacious, and enthusiastic
- Experience providing proactive support to operational teams
- Experience in people management, including talent mapping and succession planning
- Previous exposure to working in a more senior or leadership capacity
