Full job description

Applications are invited for the post of Specialty Doctor (ST3+ equivalent) in Colorectal Surgery. The post holder will join a multidisciplinary team that provides most of the General and Colorectal services at Ysbyty Gwynedd and Llandudno General Hospital. This includes both outpatient and inpatient care.

The post has been approved to support colorectal services but the post holder will also have plenty of opportunities to gain skills in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery and Colonoscopy. They will also be expected to support the team of Robotic Surgeons and join them in theatre.

The department of General and Colorectal Surgery at Ysbyty Gwynedd is a well-recognised training unit and works very closely with HEIW. This department is recognised for the IST programme and attracts 4 ST3 and 6 CTs a year. All Specialty Doctors are offered training opportunities similar to HEIW trainees.

Provision (with colleagues) of a service in the specialty to the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness, and the proper functioning of the department

Carry out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required, and for contributing to postgraduate and continuing medical activity, locally and nationally

Participation in medical and clinical audit

Involvement in research to the extent that clinical duties allow

Participate in outpatient clinics

Provide clinical supervision to junior medical and nursing staff

Be involved in multidisciplinary team (MDT) and other clinical meetings

Ensure the daily smooth running of the ward

Participate in the General Surgery mid-grade 1:8 on call rota (as a non-resident for nights and weekends) with prospective cover

The post holder will have independent duties as deemed appropriate by the supervising Consultant
