Job Summary
Thames Valley Utilities is seeking motivated individuals to join our growing team of enhanced access commercial water meter readers in the North London area on a self-employed contractor basis.
Our roles offer flexible working arrangements and are ideally suited to individuals who enjoy driving, self-management, possess excellent customer-facing skills, and have good local knowledge.
Previous experience in wholesale utilities is an essential requirement, and full on boarding training is provided.
This role is ideal for those who would like to use a motorbike, moped, or a push bike along with public transport. Relevant business insurance must be in place before starting the role.
We work Monday to Friday, within business hours (9 am to 5 pm), however, overtime is often available upon request.
Duties
- Access and read water meters across diverse locations, including difficult-to-reach areas.
- Use hand tools to access external meters.
- Record readings accurately using digital devices or manual logs, maintaining high levels of precision.
- Follow safety protocols during field operations, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain detailed records of all readings and activities performed during each shift.
Responsibilities
- Read water meters accurately and efficiently on a scheduled basis.
- Record meter readings and report any discrepancies or issues.
- Use hand tools to access and inspect meters in various locations.
- Follow established routes and schedules to ensure all meters are read in a timely manner.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding any challenges or concerns.
Requirements
- Use of own vehicle with relevant documentation (licence, insurance, etc.)
- Use of own mobile device.
- Excellent customer-facing skills.
- DBS/Criminal checks.
- Experience essential.
- Excellent comprehension of the English language in both reading and writing.
Qualifications
- Ability to work independently and follow directions accurately.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills in English.

Pay: £28,000.00-£38,000.00 per year
