Scrub Nurse (Minor Surgery)
Skin Medical is seeking an experienced and reliable Locum Scrub Nurse to support our surgical team during dedicated operating lists at our established medical clinic in the heart of Manchester.
This role is ideal for an experienced theatre practitioner looking for flexible work within a professional and supportive environment. The position is offered on a locum basis and is expected to involve approximately one surgery day per week, although this may vary depending on clinic requirements.
The successful candidate will assist with a range of minor surgical procedures, including hair transplant surgery, upper eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), cyst excisions, keloid scar and tissue removal, skin lesion excisions, and other minor procedures performed under local anaesthetic. The Scrub Nurse will play a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and smooth running of theatre lists while delivering exceptional standards of patient care.
Key Responsibilities Clinical Duties
- Prepare theatre and treatment rooms for minor surgical procedures.
- Provide skilled scrub and circulating support during surgical lists.
- Assist surgeons throughout procedures, ensuring instruments and equipment are available and maintained in a sterile manner.
- Maintain strict aseptic technique and infection prevention standards at all times.
- Support patient preparation prior to surgery and assist with immediate post-operative care where required.
- Monitor patient wellbeing throughout procedures and escalate concerns appropriately.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of theatre records and clinical documentation.
- Maintain a safe, professional, and reassuring environment for patients undergoing treatment.
Governance & Compliance
- Adhere to all clinic policies, infection control protocols, and clinical governance requirements.
- Ensure compliance with Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards and best practice guidelines.
- Participate in incident reporting, audits, and quality improvement initiatives where required.
- Ensure surgical instruments and equipment are handled, stored, and processed in accordance with decontamination and sterilisation procedures.
Operational Duties
- Assist with theatre stock management and equipment checks.
- Ensure treatment rooms are fully prepared and stocked ahead of surgery lists.
- Report equipment faults or clinical concerns promptly.
- Work collaboratively with surgeons, nurses, and administrative staff to ensure an efficient patient journey.
Essential Requirements
- Registered Nurse (NMC) or Registered Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
- Previous experience working as a Scrub Nurse or Theatre Practitioner.
- Experience assisting with surgical procedures in a theatre environment.
- Strong understanding of aseptic technique, infection prevention, and theatre protocols.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and confidently within a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to delivering high standards of patient care and safety.
Desirable
- Experience assisting with hair transplant procedures.
- Experience in plastic surgery, dermatological surgery, or aesthetic surgical procedures.
- Previous experience working within a private healthcare setting.
- Familiarity with CQC-regulated services.
- Immediate Life Support (ILS) certification.
