The Congleton Chronicle has been a trusted voice of the community since 1893. As one of the UK's few remaining independent, family-owned weekly newspapers, we still believe in the power of traditional print journalism. We don't chase clickbait; we cover the stories that matter to the people of Congleton, Alsager, Biddulph and Sandbach, as well as the surrounding villages.
We are looking for a tenacious, community-minded reporter to join our dedicated newsroom. Whether you are an experienced journalist or an ambitious NCTJ-qualified trainee looking for the perfect place to cut your teeth, we want to hear from you.
This isn't a job where you will be chained to a desk re-writing press releases. You will be out on the patch, building relationships and finding the exclusive stories our readers expect every Thursday morning.
Your beat will be wonderfully diverse, covering everything from town council debates and local planning disputes, to human interest features and community campaigns.
What we're looking for:
- An NCTJ qualification (including 100wpm shorthand preferred).
- A sharp news sense and passion for public interest journalism.
- The ability to write clean, accurate copy to strict print deadlines.
- A friendly, approachable manner - you're comfortable talking to anyone.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Why join us?
At the Chronicle, you will gain unparalleled experience across every aspect of local reporting. We offer a supportive, traditional newsroom environment where public interest journalism is genuinely valued.
If you want to be part of a proud newspaper tradition and make a real difference in the community, apply today. Please send your CV and a brief cover letter, along with a sample of your work, if possible.
