LEAD SWIMMING COACH (ACADEMY/DEVELOPMENT SQUADS)

Responsible for:
Stockport Metro is seeking a highly motivated coach with experience working across Academy, Development and Masters programmes. The successful candidate will primarily work with swimmers aged 8–12 within our Academy and Development squads, playing a key role in our coaching pathway and assisting on Masters Squads
This position is integral to the progression of our swimmers, working closely with the Head Coach and Head of Academy to support their development as they move through the pathway.
There are currently two positions available, each involving additional coaching responsibilities within either our Academy squads or Development squads.
The role offers excellent opportunities for personal development, including mentorship from our experienced coaching team.
You will be responsible for engaging and inspiring Academy swimmers at the start of their swimming journey, focusing on developing strong technical skills and maintaining high coaching standards in line with Life Leisure WATCH principles.
Key duties include leading and coaching designated squads, supporting swimmer progression, and attending competitions with your swimmers.
Hours:
Role 1- Development Assistant and Age Group Squad Assistant. Approx 12 hours per week. Training sessions will take place Monday /Tuesday/Thursday/ Friday and Sunday
Role 2 - Academy Coach 4.5 hours. Training sessions will take place Monday /Thursday/ Friday and Sunday
Location: Grand Central/ Avondale
Salary: TBC depending on qualifications and experience

Essential
A sound knowledge of all areas of the Stockport Metro swimming programme, including the teaching programme
The ability to be well planned
The ability to work to deadlines and exceed targets
Desirable
A minimum of two years' swimming teaching or coaching experience
Knowledge of swimming competitions, especially at a development and age group level
Education and qualifications
Essential
A minimum of Coaching Swimming: Level 2 Award or Swimming Coach Certificate or, an interest in working towards this (if not already) Level 1 Coaching and Level 2 teaching qualification will be considered
Desirable
Level 3 Senior Coach qualification
Strength and Conditioning Qualification
NPLQ – National Pool Lifeguard Qualification
Masters, Triathlon and Open Water training/experience
Abilities, Skills and Knowledge
Technical knowledge of all 4 strokes as well as skills including starts and turns
A basic understanding of physiology
Ability to communicate effectively to young swimmers and their parents
The ability to work well with a team of coaches
Job duties:
Coaching
To coach an Academy squad (swimmers aged 8-12) with a primary focus on developing technique and skills
To assist on either our development or masters squads
Training sessions will take place as per role descriptions, plus scope for additional coaching across other squads
To assist with prepool and land training when needed
To attend competitions with your squad and help with Stockport Metro competitions
To use initiative, be creative and come with new ideas
To follow a criteria set by Head Coach
To work with the Head of Academy to ensure a progressive pathway from Academy to Development squads
To cover other coaching sessions when needed.
