Job Description: Manufacturing Packing Manager (Joinery, Print, & Spray-Painted Goods)
Position Overview
The Manufacturing Packing Manager oversees the final stage of the production pipeline. You will lead the packing and despatch team to ensure high-end joinery, large-format print products, Acrylic display items and delicate spray-painted goods are securely packed, quality-checked, and ready for shipping. This role requires a blend of rigorous quality control, team leadership, a hands-on approach and logistical coordination to prevent product damage during transit.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Shift Management
- Supervise and train packing operatives on specific packing techniques for varied materials.
- Allocate daily tasks based on production schedules and shipping priorities.
- Monitor staff performance to maintain high productivity and morale.
- Enforce health and safety regulations, including safe lifting techniques and PPE compliance.
Quality Control & Product Protection
- Inspect finished goods for surface defects, scratches, or damages before packing.
- Enforce strict standards for handling delicate, high-end spray-painted items.
- Verify item counts against picking lists, sales orders and technical drawings to ensure zero missing parts.
- Approve final packages with account handlers to ensure they meet client-specific presentation standards.
Packing Design & Material Management
- Develop packing methods tailored to heavy joinery, fragile prints, and painted items.
- Utilize specialized materials such as foam edging, bubble wrap, cardboard packaging, and pallets.
- Manage inventory levels of packing consumables like pallets, boxes, tape, and protective wrap.
- Source cost-effective packaging materials without compromising product protection.
- Record packaging details for repeat jobs
Logistics & Dispatch Coordination
- Liaises with other department heads to plan when goods are ready for packing / storing.
- Coordinate with the warehouse manager and freight forwarders to schedule daily collections.
- Generate shipping labels, delivery notes, and export documentation when required.
- Maximize vehicle space by planning efficient palletisation and loading sequences.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years in a packing or dispatch supervisory role within manufacturing.
- Specific industry experience in joinery, point-of-sale (POS) print, or general manufacturing.
- Proven track record of handling mixed-material products and fragile finishes.
- Work additional hours including weekend workingwhere required for large roll outs.
Technical Skills
- Basic computer knowledge in software for sales order and job card print outs and sign off
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office being basic skills in excel, word and outlook
- Forklift truck licence Counterbalance is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of courier systems and freight shipping regulations an advantage.
Soft Skills
- Sharp eye for detail to spot minor finish defects before shipping.
- Strong leadership abilities to motivate a team of employed and agency workers to tight deadlines.
- Excellent problem-solving skills to handle delays in manufacturing / packaging or sudden schedule changes.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Active factory floor role requiring standing, walking, and lifting for long periods.
- Ability to lift and move goods safely.
