About the role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Training Manager to lead the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of regulated aviation, rail and maritime security training programmes as well as general security training relevant to ProtectUK and other less regulated sectors. Flexibility to work from either office location with the expectation of some travel.
This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring all training activities meet UK Department for Transport (DfT), Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulatory requirements and the standards for ProtectUK, while supporting operational excellence across classroom, blended, and eLearning environments.
The successful candidate will oversee course content design, instructor delivery standards, Learning Management System (LMS) content design and delivery, course validation, compliance assurance, and ongoing competency development of security instructors and staff.
Key responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain all security training programmes
- Deliver and oversee classroom, blended, and eLearning training
- Ensure compliance with the UK CAA Training QA framework
- Update training materials in line with regulatory and operational changes
- Validate and standardise all training content and assessments
- Lead LMS development, administration, and reporting
- Monitor instructor performance and training effectiveness
- Support onboarding and competency development of new employees
- Prepare for and support CAA audits and compliance inspections
- Maintain audit-ready training records and quality assurance processes
Skills and experience
Essential
- Level 3 Award in Education and Training [AET], PTLLS, or a recognized Train the Trainer certificate, such as TAP
- Significant experience in security training with appropriate CINs for courses delivered
- Strong knowledge of UK DfT and CAA regulatory frameworks
- Formal training, education, or instructional design qualification
- Experience designing and validating regulated training programmes
- Experience managing eLearning platforms and LMS systems
- Excellent quality assurance and audit management skills
- Excellent attention to detail and stakeholder management abilities
- Strong, professional communication and organisational skills
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly PowerPoint, Word and Excel
- Self-motivated with the ability to use initiative
- Friendly and professional approach
- Driver with ability to travel
Desirable
- Level 3 Award in Counter-Terrorism Protective Security and Preparedness (CTPSaP)
- Experience supporting CAA audits and inspections
- Background in security screening or specialist security operations
- Experience managing training teams
