Job Overview
Reporting directly to the Head Chef, you will help run daily operations, maintain our high standards for food quality, consistency and safety, and support us in delivering our popular menu of prime steaks, fresh seafood, homemade salads and classic British dishes. You will step up to lead the team when the Head Chef is away, and help develop new dishes and seasonal specials for our guests.
Responsibilities
Kitchen Operations
- Prepare, cook and present food to our exact recipes and high standards — including our signature 8oz sirloin/ribeye steaks, grilled chicken, seafood cocktails and Mediterranean-style dishes
- Oversee all sections of the kitchen (grill, prep, starters, mains) to ensure smooth service and no delays
- Manage food portioning and presentation to keep every plate consistent
- Take full charge of the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence, leading the team and making operational decisions
Quality & Menu Development
- Ensure all ingredients are fresh, high-quality and used correctly
- Help test, create and refine new dishes, specials and seasonal menu updates
- Train junior chefs and kitchen staff on recipes, techniques and our standards
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Follow all food safety regulations, HACCP guidelines and our 5-star food hygiene standards
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe kitchen environment at all times
- Check temperatures, stock rotation and labelling daily
Stock & Cost Control
- Help manage stock levels, place orders and reduce waste to keep food costs within budget
- Monitor expiry dates and rotate stock correctly
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Chef in a busy pub, bistro, steakhouse or similar venue
- Experience cooking steaks, grilled meats, fresh seafood and fresh salads is highly desirable
- Knowledge of food safety (Level 2 or 3 Food Hygiene certificate)
- Able to work calmly under pressure during busy service
- Strong team leader, reliable and passionate about great food
- Flexible with shifts, including weekends and evenings
- Relevant catering qualification (Level 2/3 Professional Cookery) is preferred but not essential for the right candidate
-Carvery experience preferred but not essential as training will be provided
Pay: £28,000.00-£31,000.00 per year
