Are you committed, with a can-do attitude? Want to be part of a fast-paced, growing team — with plenty of opportunities for career progression? If so, we have the perfect job for you! We're currently looking for an experienced, all-round Finance Assistant to join our expanding team.
Company Description
Watkins Energy is an energy company set up in July 2019 with the aim of providing best-in-class customer service in the fast-growing heat market. Offering holistic, end-to-end services, we specialise in the ongoing operation and management of both small and large-scale heat networks for developers, local authorities, housing associations and managing agents.
Heat networks are now a regulated market. Since January 2026, Ofgem has been the statutory regulator, and residential heat customers benefit from consumer protections and access to the Energy Ombudsman, comparable to those for gas and electricity. Watkins Energy is well placed for this new era: as a long-standing Registered Participant of the Heat Trust — the voluntary consumer-protection standard — we were already committed to operating our networks fairly, transparently and to the highest standards.
Going from strength to strength — currently serving around 11,000 customers, with our portfolio continuing to grow — we're looking for an accurate, well-organised all-rounder to join our finance team. In this varied, hands-on role you'll turn your hand to everything from generating invoices for chargeable works and managing incoming payments to credit control, setting up new suppliers, job costing and financial reporting. With accuracy and attention to detail at the heart of the role, the successful candidate will take real pride in getting the numbers right and keeping our records up to date.
This is a great role for someone who is a committed, accurate and motivated team player, keen to progress their career in a friendly and supportive work environment.
Role Purpose
The Finance Assistant is a true all-rounder within our finance team — a varied, hands-on role spanning everything from raising invoices and managing incoming payments to credit control, supplier set-up, job costing and financial reporting.
We are looking for a reliable, accurate and well-organised team player who enjoys variety, takes real pride in getting the detail right, and is happy to turn their hand to whatever the team needs. Reporting to the Head of Finance, IT, Data and Compliance, you will play an important part in keeping our finances accurate and up to date. Full training is provided, there is genuine scope to grow, and study support toward a professional qualification is available for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
- Generate invoices for chargeable works, making sure they are accurate, properly supported and issued on time
- Manage incoming payments — recording and allocating them accurately and keeping records up to date
- Carry out credit control, issuing statements and reminders, chasing overdue accounts and building good relationships with clients
- Assist with setting up new suppliers and processing supplier payments
- Support job costing, helping to track costs against jobs and flag anything unexpected
- Assist with financial reporting and month-end tasks
- Carry out accurate data entry and keep financial records well organised across our systems
- Respond to day-to-day finance queries and support customers, clients and colleagues
- Provide general finance and administrative support, turning your hand to whatever the team needs
This list is not exhaustive. As a varied all-rounder role, duties will flex with the needs of the team, and full training is provided.
