Vineyards Pharmacy is a new community pharmacy opening in Great Baddow. We are looking for a friendly, enthusiastic and reliable Pharmacy Counter Assistant to join our team and play an important role in establishing and developing our new pharmacy.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a pharmacy from the outset and help us build a welcoming, professional and patient-focused service for the local community.
Working Hours
- Monday to Saturday– shifts will include a combination of weekday and weekend working
- Full-time and part-time positions may be available
- Flexibility to work across the pharmacy's opening hours will be required
Role Overview
The Pharmacy Counter Assistant will be one of the first points of contact for patients and customers visiting Vineyards Pharmacy.
The successful candidate will provide excellent customer service, assist patients with prescription and over-the-counter enquiries, support the sale of pharmacy and healthcare products and help ensure the pharmacy remains welcoming, organised and professional.
You will work closely with pharmacists, dispensary staff and other members of the pharmacy team, referring patients to the pharmacist or appropriate colleague whenever necessary.
The duties below are not exhaustive, and additional responsibilities may be required as reasonably directed by the Pharmacy Manager or Pharmacist.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Welcome patients and customers in a friendly, professional and approachable manner
- Provide a high standard of customer service at all times
- Receive prescriptions and assist patients with prescription collections
- Manage prescription collection queries and refer appropriate enquiries to the dispensary team
- Sell over-the-counter medicines in accordance with pharmacy procedures and protocols
- Ask appropriate questions when customers request medicines and refer to the pharmacist when required
- Provide customers with appropriate information about pharmacy products and services
- Promote and provide information about NHS and private pharmacy services
- Book patients into pharmacy services and appointments where appropriate
- Respond to telephone, face-to-face and general customer enquiries
- Process customer payments accurately using the pharmacy till system
- Handle cash, card and account transactions appropriately
- Assist with till reconciliation when required
- Receive incoming stock and deliveries and check them against orders
- Replenish and rotate pharmacy and retail stock
- Ensure products are correctly priced and displayed
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages or low-stock items
- Maintain clean, organised and professional pharmacy counter and retail areas
- Support seasonal and promotional healthcare displays
- Assist with merchandising and product presentation
- Deal with customer queries, feedback and complaints professionally, escalating where appropriate
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with information governance requirements
- Follow pharmacy Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and health & safety requirements
- Complete all required mandatory training and relevant pharmacy qualifications
- Support colleagues and contribute positively to the development of the new pharmacy
- Undertake any other reasonable duties appropriate to the role
About You

- Is willing to learn about medicines, healthcare products and pharmacy services
- Is comfortable using computers, till systems and other technology
- Understands the importance of patient confidentiality
- Is enthusiastic about helping establish and grow a new community pharmacy
Previous community pharmacy or retail experience would be advantageous, but training can be provided for the right candidate.
Candidates who have already completed a recognised Medicines Counter Assistant (MCA) or equivalent pharmacy qualification are particularly welcome to apply.
